The Windmill Inn is an old friend. We stayed there for B&B some years ago. Since then it has closed and reopened. The new look is very smart while keeping with the feel of an earlier time. Today we decided to try lunch while on the road to Daventry. In a few words, we are SO glad we did. The menu was creative without being over the top. The service and server were both excellent. The food was delicious. I opted for a veggie dish; my companion had venison. Outstanding presentation and very good value. We will certainly return, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Went with family and friends for dinner - the table having been booked previously (often necessary). Lovely beers and very nice food, of a bit on the pricy side.

The portions were ample and the quality excellent. The staff were very attentive, perhaps a bit too attentive at times with different members of staff wanting to take our orders, even when they had only just been taken.

A very nice meal all in all.

Stayed at the Windmill Inn and everyone was friendly, the room was clean and the bed was comfy. Had a good rest and the breakfast was lovely. Would happily recommend to friends and family.

This was our third visit, the first two occasions were very good, but this was disappointing. The food was still good but the customer service was very poor. The first young waitress was very nice and took our order, whilst we were waiting another waitress came to take our order and was very annoyed that our order had already been taken, complaining that she had told the younger girl not to! We then had to wait 40 minutes to be served, and yes we know food is cooked to order, but when it finally arrived, 2 main courses were served, then a delay of 5 minutes before two more were served and then another delay before the last of us was served. After the mains we asked to see the dessert menu, which duly arrived but then nobody came back to take our order, we waited 20 minutes and in the end gave up, paid the bill and left. When we were outside the waitress then came out saying we had paid the wrong bill! We had checked the bill before we paid! We returned to the pub where we were told it was ok we had paid the right amount. Very very disappointing.

Firstly may I thank you for your honest review, but feel a little disappointed that it's your first review and as you said, you visited us twice before and everything was very good.
We are only as good as the last meal we serve and your issues were apparent to my staff on the night but sometimes when things are going wrong you cannot change them.
We take great pride in our level of service and the quality of our food, and Sunday night, when you attended was no different. We had a large number of tables to serve and as much as I would like to put extra staff on it was impossible. It's that unfortunate time of year where people go on holiday and my staff are no different. So when you're one chef down and four members of waiting staff preceded by an extremely busy lunchtime things sometimes will go awry. You said in your view that the food was very good which is absolutely correct we do produce very good food, But a dining experience is not just down to the food. It is about the whole thing, and service is the fundamental part.
What you didn't see was a kitchen containing a single chef and a helper, and one staff not arriving due to illness. So having numerous people taking orders adds massive pressure and delays on the kitchen as all the checks come in at once. The customers perspective is that it's my order only that's gone in
These really are not your concerns and we should be able to provide a service that doesn't diminish, but in reality that's always not possible. People normally express their disappointment prior to paying their bill but on speaking to my staff you left quite happy with nothing really being said and you seem to accept that we were overrun.
I hope that this latest experience has not deterred you as you are aware of the quality that we normally ascend to.
I believe that we hit the quality of food and the excellent level of service 95% of the time, which in any industry is exceptional. We are always happy with criticism and on this particular night your criticism was warranted but I would have preferred that it had been discussed on the night as we really could have acted on it. With reference to your bill we actually thought you had paid too much hence the questions.

There is an old saying that a good experience you tell one person and a bad experience you tell 10, I just wish that your nice experience was on trip advisor as well.

Your review doesn't give a lot if detail as to what food you've had and when you ate. You've mentioned 'pricey', but I don't believe that our food and drink is, especially with a pint of real ale at £3.20 and draught Peroni at £3.80 a pint, plus food like our own beer battered cod and chips at £10.25.
I think you would have paid more at the hotel you were stopping at.
Anyway, thanks for your review.
