“Second stay as good as our first”
Reviewed September 12, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We first stayed at Rose Cottage 2 years ago and concluded then that it was one of the best located and appointed cottages which we had rented in UK. Our second visit fully confirmed this impression. The property has been sensitively restored and equipped to a very high standard. It is cosy and very comfortable and just right for up to 5 people, although the steep stairway might be tricky for very young children or the infirm. It has a small, pretty cottage-garden fronting onto the street but sufficiently enclosed to feel private so we made full use of the outside seating and dining space. The other side of the house faces onto a field occupied by sheep, rabbits and pheasants. Our grand-daughters were very amused to watch the sheep scratching their behinds against the cross-bar which protects the sitting room window from the livestock. Keld is ideally situated for exploring the Yorkshire Dales - whether on foot or by car. It is a pretty village: quite remote and very quiet, with no through road traffic, so children can play and roam quite freely. The walking is excellent and varied - from bleak, high fells to green wooded valleys as well as remains of the historic lead mining industry to explore. Most of the visitors are walkers - there for the scenery (esp waterfalls) but it neither attracts nor could accommodate the tourist buses and caravans which have spoiled villages like Hawes. Consequently there aren't the tourist trap craft & souvenir shops but it means that shopping for food needs some planning. The nearest village shop for emergencies is in Muker and there are basic shops (decent butcher/baker and scruffy Spar) in Hawes but you should plan to bring most provisions with you or make a long journey down Swaledale to Reeth or even Richmond. We look forward to returning.

“Best beds!!”
Reviewed February 16, 2017 for a stay in February 2017

Had a great stay at Rose Cottage. Weather was very cold but all cosy in the cottage once we mastered the log burner. Added fire in the sitting room helped. Everything you could need & really the most comfortable beds we have come across in hired accommodation. Definitely back for a stay in Spring/Summer as the location is very pretty (but remote)
Alison checked on us which was nice & left us a very good cake.

Lovely homely cottage! Stunning location perfect for walkers! Alison the owner was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Her cake was also very much appreciated! Perfect for a relaxing break! There are many beautiful waterfalls on your doorstep and many options for walking. The cottage has everything you would need and more! Would definitely recommend and would love to return one day. Thank you Alison

“Relaxing weeks walking”

We had one of the most relaxing weeks on our walking break, it is beautifully situated for glorious walks close to the cottage or short drives to places like Ingleborough Peak.
The cottage is spacious and very clean lots of thought has gone into providing guest with all they could need, the welcome cake provided was excellent and much appreciated.
Best day out was to York for lunch, The National Railway Museum, The Shambles and York Castle Museum & best walk was completing the climb up Ingleborough Peak.

“Excellent cottage in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed July 12, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

As regular users of holiday cottages we know that rental properties can vary quite a bit in what they provide. We were pleased to find that Rose Cottage is very much at the upper end of the quality scale. The owners have found the right balance between retaining character with providing comfort and modern facilities. The cottage is well equipped, beds are very comfortable and the whole atmosphere is cosy and homely. The small hamlet of Keld has excellent walking opportunities in the lovely Swaledale area. For those looking for a "get away from it all" holiday we would recommend this cottage. We plan to return.
