“Lovely accomodation, amazing staff!”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

Just got back from our second stay in the Boathouse apartment and we will be going back!

The welcome that is offered by the staff is fab. Making sure the business side of things is done efficently and without pressure: tables and breakfast booked with no problems! As we had stayed before we were given a quick run through to make sure we knew what we needed to and what to do if any problems: which there was none! The apartment is lovely and spacious, exactly what we needed for a relaxing break.

We ate in the Bistro : I had the Garlic Prawns to start and my partner had the smoked salmon- Delicious. We both had the chicken kievs for main which again lovely. All piping hot and with excellant acompanying side dishes. The bottle of wine went down a treat. The bisto itself is great and was only improved by the wonderful hosting by very friendly and helpful staff.

Both days we had breakfast and we can't grumble about any of it!! Great start for a day of walking: plenty of options and a regular check that our cups weren't empty!

Big thank you to the team, its a lovely place and its made all the better by you all.

We enjoyed a lovely weekend break here, stayed in the beautiful room 5 with lovely sea views. The room was spotlessly clean and yes like some reviews have stated the rooms are cosy, but what more can you expect from staying in an original building in the beautiful quaint old town of Robin Hood's Bay, it really gives character to the stay! The guesthouse is right in the heart of the village, just yards from the sea... and perfect for a relaxing break! Breakfast was fantastic, really set us up for the day's coastal walk to Whitby! We had a lovely meal in the bistro (booking is recommended as it is very popular) and the food and service was fantastic, the Whitby crab for starters was delicious and I particularly enjoyed the desert selection, opting for the tiramisu which was very very wonderful . Thank you for a lovely weekend Lisa..

Room Tip: if staying in a attic room they have great sea views, but we recommend ear plugs as the seagulls are...

A great menu, great seafood but also a good menu with something to suit everyone.I had the garlic prawns to start and mussells for main and they were fab, piping hot and perfectly cooked. Service was very good, friendly and everything well presented. Delicious food. Would recommend.

We enjoyed a fantastic meal in this lovely little Bistro, right n the heart of the Bay. The Bistro itself is small and cosy with a lovely atmosphere, so full of charm. It fits right in with the great atmosphere of Robin Hoods Bay. I cannot fault the the warmness and helpfulness of the staff, who made sure all our needs were met on both occasions that we ate there.
Smugglers has a good wine list with reasonable prices and the seafood was AMAZING!!! We each had different dishes centred around the fresh seafood and we were all very pleased with our choices. Dessert was just as good, again local Ice cream and a fantastic Cheese board.
The Surf and Turf was however, exceptional, locally sourced beef topped with crevette prawns and mussels.....sooo delicious. So much so, we went back for a second visit and ordered the same dish and it didn't disappoint!
We all throughly enjoyed the great food and lovely atmosphere of this Bistro. I will definitely be booking again the next time we visit the Bay.

Enjoyed a very nice meal here and the owner provides excellent helpful service. I had a rib eye with peppercorn sauce and my husband had the surf and turf special (rib eye with prawns and mussels) The steak was ok, and have had better, but the prawns and mussels on my husbands were gorgeous. Wine is also very reasonably priced.

The things they could improve are the sweet menu as it lacks variety and is quite pricey and the liqueur coffee's . We ordered 2 Irish Coffees which came as coffee (which was only lukewarm), separate measure of whiskey and separate measure of pouring cream which really isn't an Irish Coffee

Having visited Robin Hood's Bay for over fifty years I know how popular it is. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised when I rang up on the off chance to see if there were any vacancies, and, as luck would have it I managed to reserve a room at the Boathouse. We arrived around 8pm and were shown to our room, which was as I expected, small, but with the advantage of a see view. The room was clean and the bed was lovely and comfy. We managed to get a table in the busy Bistro...........and surprise surprise the food was excellent, with out a doubt the best meal I have had in Robin Hood's Bay so far. (compliments to the chef!). The staff and the owner/s were really lovely, very attentive and friendly. Breakfast was excellent, more than enough to eat and cooked to perfection! .The only downside to the stay were some incredibly noisy and rude guests in the room next door! Would I stay again? Definitely would highly recommend.

We arived early since we were only walking from HighHawsker on our coast to coast walk and discovered the door closed to the accommodation but there was a phone number on the door which we phoned and the owner came to us in minutes and put us in a room which had just been cleaned.
For us the room was small but it does say it is a boat house and we should have been more aware, but it was fine for an overnight stay, it is in a good position. The Bistro however is exceptional we had a fresh fish platter which was excellent value for money, i know since a similiar dish at a quality diner where i live charges 25% more and not as good, but is always full

Bistro excellent, room a little small for me and my wife
