“Good location; efficient friendly staff; good value; poor disco”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Having stayed in the Kings Head as a party of eighteen over three days at New Year including New Years Eve I would like to congratulate you on a very enjoyable stay.
The food, friendliness of most of your staff and hotel cleanliness were all to be applauded.
However there was one situation where some improvement would be appreciated :-
My point point concerns the disco on New Year’s Eve – it was, frankly, a disgrace.
I know I speak on behalf of my own party but I’m sure that the rest of the people that night would agree with our view.
The two young boys running the disco persisted in playing music from the Nineties onwards and their ushering in of the New Year was totally unprofessional. It was, after all, the reason we were all there!
The age profile of the people that night was essentially 55+.
I have some experience in this field and people of that age group want to dance to the music of their youth i.e. songs from the 60’s & 70’s with a smattering of tracks from the 50’s and the 80’s and 90’s. Even younger people are happy to dance to the music of the Sixties! It was no surprise that the dance-floor was empty for long periods of time.
In my opinion, when booking your disco, you should make sure that they are able to play music from this era – easily achievable in these days of digital downloads.
By separate email I have forwarded a playlist of tracks which, although subjective, will guarantee to keep a dancefloor crowded for five hours! Perhaps you might use this as a checklist when booking future discos for this age group and you will end up with much happier customers!!

Thank you for your lovely comments about the team over the Christmas period. I have passed these on to the team who are delighted. Thank you for taking the time to speak to me following this being posted on trip advisor about your concerns over the disco which we have sorted out already for next year and ensured that the appropriate people and music WILL be played. Your comments have been very useful and we all look forward to seeing you again for this years New Year Party.

Stayed here for Christmas- Family of 4. Rooms comfortable and clean, even Christmas day towels changed and rooms serviced. Food fresh cooked, hot and plentiful. No canteen food here! Hotel Georgian with wonderful period features. Staff friendly and nothing too much trouble. Stay for a break. You won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Kings Head. The food was top notch. The location was perfect. The staff were friendly and always ready to help. The manager, Mike, was particularly excellent. The hotel is old and tired in a comfortable and charming way. The food is restaurant standard. I will definitely stay again when I'm back in Richmond.

Room Tip: Many rooms only have a bath and hand held shower attachment.

Have stayed here before but this time as a result of booking by phone instead of online, got a better deal strangely.

Their own restaurant food was nice, even if my dish contained a different fish to that requested, never did get the promised explanation.

The rooms have Character, the building is clearly quite old and this is reflected in the finish, just mind your head on the beams in the top floor rooms.

Thank you for your recent comments - we have a central reservations department that provides a variety of offers at Best Price Guaranteed and to suit the needs of the customer that unfortunately the on-line booking can't always cope with.

We are delighted that you returned and enjoyed your stay and I will speak speak to the kitchen team about the fish dish not as described on the menu. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Stayed again for one night and cannot fault the excellence of this hotel. The staff were always very helpful and courteous. Stayed in Room 5 overlooking the square - what a lovely room very spacious with high ceilings and a lovely big bed which was very comfortable. The bathroom was very nice with white fluffy towels and toiletries. The shower was ok but it is an old building so the pressure was not that good but it was adequate. Stayed for dinner which was very nice especially the chicken dish washed down with a bottle of wine. We were given free sorbet for the length of time we waited (didn't notice the length of time really) but thought it was a nice touch. Breakfast was excellent cooked fresh for you with lots of choice. A very nice relaxing stay and will definitely visit again.

Bar staff were very helpful and really good selection of real ales and bottled beers from around the world.

Breakfast was really good cooked fresh and hot not one of these god awfull large buffets with dried beans or bacon that is rock hard with deep fried sausages

Very good selection of well kept regional ales , cosy bar and a fantastic open fire in the Restaurant . Well presented fresh food , good standard of service ! Its not The Ritz but great value ! Great People ! a character property in a picturesque North Yorkshire town ....in all a very enjoyable stay at a very competitive price
