Having just spent a week at Lastingham Grange I can heartily endorse the favourable reviews of this absolute gem of a small country house hotel posted by earlier visitors. From the moment we walked through the door we felt completely at home and this feeling lasted throughout our entire stay. The owners Jane Wood and her two sons Bertie and Tom made us very welcome and were very accommodating regarding the special dietary requirements of my wife. During our stay we visited several local attractions but it was always pleasurable to return in mid afternoon to sit on the terrace overlooking the rose garden with a pint of beer or a lovely cream tea as appropriate. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel for the older generation who appreciate good service in a real old fashioned county house setting.

How refreshing to find that on returning to this charming hotel nothing had changed. The same friendly, courteous and professional service in a family- run establishment. With a welcoming afternoon tea and an excellent meal (no surcharge on the fillet steak and no piped music!) Lastingham Grange has everything that we require of a first class hotel. Our room was charming and well appointed - not large but comfortable, big fluffy towels and quality toiletries in the bathroom and a view over their well kept garden. Set in a peaceful location it is civilized and restful yet near to many Yorkshire tourist attractions. We look forward to returning yet again.

In travels round the world we have never encountered such a friendly hotel - one where the family take a personal interest in each guest. Every need is met. The old-fashioned chintzy style, roaring fires, book-lined lounge, automatic afternoon tea etc make you feel immediately at home. The food is excellent (unadventurous, but none the worse for that) and the wine list genuinely interesting. Breakfasts are all you could expect. In short, a perfect place for a relaxing break. And a wonderful situation: lovely village and walk from the hotel grounds immediately onto the Moor.

After a hectic autumn/winter with building works at home we were looking for a quiet and secluded hotel from where we could explore the North Yorkshire Moors and villages and relax for a few days. Lastingham Grange was pot luck as we knew nothing about the hotel or the village but as it turned out a wonderful choice on both counts. The Grange provided a perfect base on the edge of the moors with great food, clean and very comforable rooms and the Woods family and their staff were great hosts. If we had one gripe - it would be a very small one in that the decor could do with a bit of updating (very floral!) but perhaps this is part of the charm of the place!
The village is really a step back in time - no street lights, very little traffic a Norman church and just one pub. Well worth a visit.

I can only reiterate the previous review. Fabulous situation right on the edge of the moors in a very special village. Bedrooms light and comfortable 'zip and link' beds. Enormously relaxing - they really do pre-empt your every need. Newspapers, afternoon tea, bottled water, tea & coffee and service all included. Paul the chef is an excellent cook and the menu is short but high quality. Value for money on excellent wines particularly noteworthy! My only gripe is that the decor is a little too overpoweringly floral.
