Mark and his wife were so welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was superb and I am convinced that it was the breakfast that won me the silver trophy in the Staveley 10m running race. The room was lovely but it did face a busy main road and I am a very light sleeper so got woken up a little bit too early for my liking.

Excellent place to stay, very comfortable and clean rooms( rooms3 & 12 ) en-suite clean &new. Breakfast....good variety ,well cooked and plenty of it. Homely type of place with a friendly and informative Mark and Lisa to look after you.If you stay here leave the car in the car park and take the train into Harrogate for the day, cheap and easy.Plenty of places to eat in Knaresborough, we tried Drakes fish restaurant, good simple food, and The Mitre, near the station. The Mitre served freshly cooked excellent meals and has a selection of real ale.Shame we could only stay the two nights,6/7 June, but hope to return in the future. Absolutely everything previously read is true. The rooms are well equipped, very comfortable. The welcome warm, appreciated the tea tray on arrival to dump bags. The breakfasts are fantastic, see the website for piccies. The location is so central we got the car out once. Though must be factual, is on a busy, noisy road. I e mailed the hotel on reading this bit and they kindly selected my room to be at the back, which was quieter. Also to be fair I do live in a close, in a sleepy suffolk village (where you have to pay the odd boy racer to rorst up and down so we can have some outrage) When hotel built ,horses just did not have that noise factor!! I would most definitely stay again and the town is lovely, so pretty with lots of ambles very close by. Enjoyed Marigold cafe by the river (several times), and on the last night (typical) found the Dropping Well Inn and the best meal of holiday, original quirky and very tasty. We also took a coach trip with Eddie Brown company over to N Yorks steam railway and over to Whitby, superb day out. Very professional company and driver, much enjoyed.

Mark and Lisa were the perfect hosts - there but not in your face. The bedroom was lovely and quiet too with a brand new shower room. We were treated to tea and scones on arrival and they recommended a really good restaurant - Carriages- for dinner.
Breakfast was a feast with Aga baked plums and local rhubarb to add to our
cereal and a very find full english to follow. I wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you Mark and Lisa. Judi and Dave

I stayed in the Newton House Hotel with my husband and our three year old daughter for May bank holiday. I booked last minute and had originally wanted to book the Dower House Hotel but they were full - thankfully!! After reading several glowing reviews of the Newton, i went ahead and called the hotel. Initially, the owner (Mark) said they had no family rooms left but then went on to re-arrange some bookings and accommodate us in Room 1, which he said was their largest room, and he would put an extra bed in for our daughter. At a cost of £110 for the night for all three of us B&B, i thought this was very reasonable!!
On arrival we were impressed by the building and entrance to a small car-park through old fashioned coach-style arched entrance. Our room wasn't ready, however we were a couple of hours early so this was no problem. We had a little look around and spoke with the owners, who are both very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. They offered us advice on where to go for an evening meal etc. We headed out into Knaresborough for lunch while we waited and we found a lovely cafe/bar/bistro called So! just off the main square - lovely tapas/mezze style food and great wine!! On our return the room was ready and Mark helped us up with our bags. Room 1 is indeed the largest room ever!! It had a kingsize bed, single bed, settee, armchair, bureau, coffee table, double wardrobe, desk/dressing table and chair and separate en suite, which was as big as a full sized bathroom, with double shower, sink and toilet!! (See photos!!). It is one of the nicest rooms we have stayed in of this particular kid of guest house. We settled in then went down to the sitting room where our daughter set about playing with the building blocks and toys in the baskets provided - another nice touch!! There is a small 'honesty' bar in the sitting room; as the owners are not there all of the time, customers can help themselves to drinks from the bar and write down the 'tab' on the book provided - another great idea!! That evening we took Lisa's (the owner) advice and headed to Harrogate to find Vivido Italian Restaurant - a lovely family friendly place that does great pizzas!! On our return to the Newton we settled our daughter in bed and retired to the sitting room for a couple of quiet drinks and a game of Trivia (one of many games and books for the residents' use in the hotel!!).
In the morning we went down for breakfast and enjoyed many homemade treats and freshly cooked-to-order breakfast. I had full vegetarian breakfast (Inc. veggie sausages and bacon!!) and there was fresh fruit, cereals, toast and homemade preserves - try Lisa's homemade marmalade, it is to die for!!
We had a great time and the nice touches made it all the more friendly and welcoming - a real home from home. We would definitely return and have already recommended to many of our friends!! The final finishing touch was a jar of Lisa's marmalade as we checked out because i had praised it and asked if it was for sale!! How nice!!

My fiancee and i wanted a weekend away with our teenage son in Yorkshire. We decided on Newton House due to the reviews i'd read on trip advisor. We were greeted by the proprietor, Mark, when we arrived and we found him to be very friendly and helpful. He showed us to our room which was situated in the courtyard outside. He gave us a wealth of information regarding pubs, restaurants and places to visit as well as showing us the facilities at Newton House and giving us the impression that nothing was too much trouble. We found our room to be clean and comfortable with an amazing bed!! The little touches in the room were very nice and included water, different teas, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, sewing kit, shoe cleaning kit, shower cap, flannel, shampoo, shower gel, DVD player, DAB radio, games to play etc. When we arrived for breakfast in the dining room it was a breath of fresh air for our son (A Coliac who cannot eat gluten) to be offered gluten free sausages and bread. Overall our stay at Newton House was fantastic and very enjoyable. We only stayed the one night but we all said that we'd definately return again. We would certainly recommend this hotel to other people and give a huge thumbs up to the friendly and accomodating staff. I must admit that this is the first time i have left a review on Trip advisor but i felt that people are always quick to leave reviews when standards are poor and felt it my duty to report when a hotel has made so much effort!
