We've looked through other reviews and agree that the accommodation is excellent, staff are friendly and the meals couldn't be faulted. We had room 19 in the coach house adjacent to the main building about 20 yards from the main entrance. What a wonderful view. The room was well appointed with period furniture and, perhaps I'd say unkindly, so was the TV! But who wants to watch TV in such a setting. When we stayed there were quite a number of very well behaved dogs and owners but we did have to negotiate them in the reception rooms from time to time. So, if you're allergic to dogs, which we aren't, then perhaps this is not for you. For owners of well behaved dogs Stone House Hotel would be ideal. We have rated cleanliness down a notch, not because we found any problem, but dogs were about all the time so some hair and aroma are inevitable.

Room Tip: Rooms in the Coach House have lovely views but are a few yards from the hotel entrance.

Stone House Hotel is beautifully situated and the views are magnificent. We found the room we were in to be large and comfy but it was airless with only one small window, out of the two large windows, able to be partly opened to allow in the fresh air.The bathroom whilst adequate, had no windows at all and was pokey. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Dinner was a 7 out of 10 - large quantities and 4 courses excluding coffee but not imaginative. Breakfast good but would prefer a buffet style for the fruit, juice, yoghurt, cereal and pastries rather than waitress service. Overall an above average old English style experience, our biggest criticism lack of ventilation in the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with best view perhaps conservatory rooms the best?

We remember your stay, and seem to recall that you stayed in Room 1, one of our Four Posters. This large room is the original master bedroom for Stone House, and contains two large windows, one which looks South over the gardens to the front and accross the Wensleydale, and another which looks out accross the fields and garden to the West. Both of these windows have large opening sections and the secondary double glazing one one window can be pulled right back. With this in mind, I'm afraid that we completely disagree that ventilation in this room is poor. I have personally been in this room when all of the windows have been open, and on a breezy day this makes it like a wind tunnel. With regard to the bathroom, no it does not have any windows, but does have an extraction system. Please remember that this is an old house and, as in many hotels, windows are present in some (but not all) bathrooms.

Our dinner menu is prepared fresh every day using locally sourced ingredients. If you look back at our previous reviews you will find that the high quality of our food features highly, and if you felt any different we would have much rather found out at the time rather than on TripAdvisor. Also coffee and cheese ARE included in the £35 price of dinner. We feel that this is good value as cheeseboard alone in some establishments could be over £10.
You mentioned that you would have preferred a buffet style breakfast in the morning instead of waitress service. I would have thought that most people would prefer to sit comfortably and read a newspaper whilst being waited on during breakfast than be constantly having to get up and serve themselves. After all, you are paying for service! If you felt that the quantity of food available was limited by waitress service compared to a buffet, I can assure you that this is not the case. The waitresses will bring you as much as you like- all you have to do is ask them.

Whilst I am still confused as to why you would describe us as "above average", and then leave an Average star rating, I am very glad that you enjoyed the situation of the hotel, and I hope that you can return to Stone House in the future and have a much better experience

Just got back from a 3 day break at The Stone House hotel, and highly recommend staying here!
The hotel is a stunning classic country house and is set in beautiful grounds, I travelled with my friend my her son, We was advised at the time of booking to stay in room 9 which is a conservatory twin room, which opens directly onto the huge garden, which was perfect as we had our 2 dogs! We also had room 3, which is a small double but as we had the conservatory most of your time was spent in there admiring the views!
Breakfast was excellent, offering a wide variety of options using all locally produced ingredients and generous portions!
The staff at the Stone house hotel were all very intentive, on making sure you got the most out of your stay. That being a relaxing break or advice on days out, local attractions and walks! All the staff were very friendly and helpful and obviously very proud of their hotel, rightly so too!
Thank you to all at The Stone House Hotel, for a lovely Birthday break away in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales!

This was the 5th or 6th visit to Stone House and as ever it was a delight. We had booked for two nights: the welcome was warm and friendly and the room was spotless ( we were in 19). Evening meal is a choice of four starters, four mains, desserts, cheese and coffee and is altered each night. Service in restaurant is friendly but never intrusive.
The hotel is located just outside Hawes and is ideal for walkers and those who wish to explore the dales alike. Or you can just relax amidst the charm of the hotel. There is free wifi available (helping me to keep up with the Test match!).
To sum up, a most enjoyable weekend: we've already promised ourselves we will be back again!

An excellent friendly welcome from Martin, and it quickly became clear that all the staff shared the same commitment to first class customer service, not least Lyn who was front of house on our first night.
The rooms were clean, well decorated and well equipped including tea making facilities with fresh milk always available in small fridges along the corridor.
Our dog was made as welcome as we were, and the hotel is set in beautifully kept gardens with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside.
There was a wide variety of food which was cooked and presented to an extremely high standard, and dinner was finished off with an amazing cheese board!
Overall, a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend.

We had a three night break here recently and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the food was quite excellent, with plenty of it. The rooms look out over the fields and dales and if you like sheep, birds and wildlife, then you will not be disappointed. There are however, a couple of points to bear in mind, firstly, the shower, the pressure is absolutely fine, but when the hotel is full, the temperature control is none existent, one minute fine, next scolding hot and then freezing cold.
We were upset on our final night by the incessant barking and yapping of a number of dogs for an hour and a half, whilst their owners were having dinner, not a pleasant experience, as it sounded much like a boarding kennel.

Many thanks for your review, we are very pleased you enjoyed the food ,service and the location here at Stone House. With regard to the couple of negatives, firstly the shower temperature - we had a new water system installed recently to give us more hot water capacity and better water pressure. This sounds like a technical glitch which we will look into. Secondly, your comments regarding barking dogs - whilst we do welcome well behaved dogs and owners, we do have some rules in place to ensure the comfort of all guests, and one of these is that dogs are not left unattended in bedrooms and should not disturb other guests. As with all complaints we would rather know at the time then we can attempt to deal with the problem immediately ,rather than guests leave us unhappy. We do hope you will return to Stone House and enjoy another relaxing break.

We have visited this beautiful part of England several times, and were very happy to come across the Stone House Hotel. Our room, in the annex, was large and well-appointed - the few steps over to the main building presented no inconvenience at all. The view from our room (#16) was breathtaking! We enjoyed all the public spaces in the main building, and the gardens are lovely (wish it had been warm enough to sit outside!). The young staff was friendly and eager to please. The food was absolutely delicious, and it was nice to have "our" table reserved for each meal. This is a welcoming, comfortable hotel in a perfect location for seeing the very best of the western part of the Yorkshire Dales. If we are lucky enough to return to the area, Stone House Hotel will be our choice of accommodation.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view over the countryside.
