We arrived at about 2 PM. We were 5 but we didn't have to wait.

After deliberating for a while, 4 of us went for the sausages and I went for the Ploughman's platter. The sausages were fine and the plates were stacked up with fantastic onion rings.
The Ploughman's was very nice. 3 slices of cheese, plenty of very tasty and varied salad as well as a lovely chutney. Only regret, there should have been a bit more bread.

The usual pub drinks were available. J2O for some while I had an enjoyable cask conditioned Black Sheep.

Although there were appetising puddings on offer, we were no longer hungry!

It is the second time we visit (both as family) and we will come back.

This is a pleasant informal restaurant attached to the Wensleydale Creamery. It is quite large and comfortably furnished. Looks more like a restaurant in a department store, than a cosy intimate restaurant. However, it has efficient and helpful staff and seemed to run like clockwork on the two busy days we ate lunch here. The quality, quantity and value of the food was simply outstanding on both occasions. Our first visit was on a Sunday lunch, where they serve a very good carvery, our second was midweek lunch where we ate from the daily specials board. The food is simple, but beautifully cooked, well presented and tasty. Highly recommended for lunch - they close around 5.00pm.

First the good point. We had one each of the Afternoon teas and they were lovely. Very tasty.

The bad point. Staff service. The Cafe seemed busy so we decided to eat in the restaurant, especially as it was empty. We checked and it was open - the three staff chatting at the bar couldn't have been more disinterested in us. After prompting we were offered a table and were given menus. After 15 minutes of being ignored I approached the staff at the bar, including the waitress and sought to place our order. We waited 10-15 minutes for our order to arrive. The food was excellent and well presented and when we'd finished we waited to pay the bill. But having waited we again approached the staff who were otherwise busy talking amongst themselves. The restaurant was open but we felt unwelcome; almost an inconvenience. Perhaps an empty restaurant tells a tale?

We liked it so much we went back a again and it was just as good second time. It was busy but the staff were still both polite and helpful. We had the Sunday roast and it was lovely. The vegetables were particularly good. You do need to book at busy times if you do not want to be disappointed. The staff did do there best to accommodate people but when we were there they were having to turn people away.

A bit of a disappointment generally although the cheese is the best. Service was indifferent, there was definitely a bit of an atmosphere as though something had gone off behind the servery. Tea was good, as was the Cheese on toast however if the scones were homemade they tasted as though it was from a packet mix BUT the worst was the Carrot cake which should not be kept in the chiller cabinet, it dries out and the topping was literally rock hard.....more like a Choc ice.

Can't understand why there is a need for such a large TV screen? This goes against the stunning setting of the surrounding countryside and don't think is necessary.
