“A Gem Indeed, couldn't agree more!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2009

We stayed at The Pheasant for 3 days, and as soon as we drove through the archway into the courtyard car park, we felt we were in for a treat. The peaceful atmosphere was apparent immediately and we never lost that feeling during our stay there. We were welcomed by the receptionist who picked up our luggage and took us to our large, bright, airy, and comfortable room, where she showed us the excellent facilities, and asked if we'd remembered to bring swimming gear for the pool.
We had booked evening dinner for all 3 days, and the choice was varied enough for everyone, with a 3 course table d'hote available, or an allowance of £30 towards the a la carte menu if preferred. Needless to say, the meals were superb, with good local Yorkshire produce used whenever possible, and not forgetting fresh herbs from their own garden. The high standard continued of course in the mornings, with everything you could possibly want for breakfast.
All of the staff were very friendly and efficient, and nothing was too much trouble for them.
My husband requested something for breakfast which wasn't mentioned on the menu, so someone was quickly despatched to the shop across the road to fetch it for him. What stars!
All in all, a great place for a relaxing break, with just the sound of birdsong to wake you in the mornings, a swim if you want that, or a late afternoon drink on the terrace whilst watching the ducks in the village pond.
We certainly hope to visit again.

Stayed here during lovely, sunny weather and it was the perfect English two day break. Could not get in at the weekend so be warned looks like the Pheasant is going to be very popular and you will need to book in advance for special occasions. A very warm welcome, hotel small and friendly and felt like a country retreat. Pleasant airy rooms, comfortable beds, good quality beverages in room, minimal neutral styling, modest bathroom. Lovely view of village pond. Very pleasant lounges, terrace, dining room and conservatory. Felt well looked after with excellent service and great food and ambience. Marvelous breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner. Super innovative young chef part owner. In same village as The Star and think the Pheasant is very healthy competition. In centre of all N Yorks attractions. Will definately be returning.

This place had a change of ownership earlier on this year and the transformation must have been amazing. The reviews on here before the renovations weren't that brilliant but I can now say that you are in for a treat. I think we were in the best room overlooking both sides of the hotel (overlooking duck pond on one side and front of hotel on other). The room was fantastic and the food was too. There is a pool but it is small and oval. Overall I think this was a fab place but was a little put off by all the skins and fur for decor!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Pheasant has arguably one of the most beautiful Country Hotel settings in North Yorkshire, over looking the duck pond in the picturesque village of Harome. Originally converted from what had been the blacksmith's shop, village shop and barns, the main part of the hotel offers one single and eleven double rooms, whilst in the sheltered courtyard are two suites, the Pheasant Suite and Plum Cottage, each with its own private entrance, two further family rooms which each have two bedrooms and the heated indoor swimming pool. The stylish and highly individual interiors - designed by Director Jacquie Pern - give the accommodation a homely and welcome feel, which continues throughout the public areas: the lounge, bar, conservatory, dining room and terrace, providing a variety of options of where to eat or enjoy a drink. The Pheasant has established a reputation for great food under the capable hands of Chef/Director Peter Neville. Residents and non-residents can choose from a wide range of menus, all taking advantage of the wealth of local, seasonal produce, including a fixed price daily Market Menu, the A la Carte, and a Tasting Menu with optional matched wine package. The Pheasant has been awarded Welcome to Yorkshire's "Small Hotel of the Year 2016". In 2014 The Pheasant was awarded the Yorkshire Life "Small but Special Accommodation" Award. The Hotel has recently been awarded Three AA Red Stars Inspectors' Choice Country House Hotel. Seasonal and special breaks are available throughout the year. ... more   less
