If you are going to Filey there is no other choice. Food is sensational, service is exceptional and the rooms are incredible. Beats expensive hotels hands down. I will not be staying anywhere else in the area in future.

My wife and I stayed at the Downcliffe for 2 nights in November 2012 for my 50th birthday. We had been let down at the last minute by another hotel elesewhere and managed to get booked in here - talk about every cloud having a silver lining! We will never know what the hotel was like that let us down, but all I can say is that we had a superb weekend at the Downcliffe.
The room was well appointed and the food in the bar and restaurant was of a high standard and Lee (the manager) couldn't do enough for us.
The weather for early November was great and we spent our days exploring Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Filey. When the sun came out, it was like summer with places opening up and day trippers arriving to make the most of it.
We have visited the hotel before, but only for lunch on a day trip and had always said we would like to stay, and now we have we will definitely be staying again - maybe in March for my wifes birthday!?
A big thanks to Liz for getting us in and making it a memorable stay.
OK. it isn't the cheapest place in Filey, but so what - it is worth it and you get what you pay for. Save up and treat yourselves!
I have to admit to feeling a bit smug watching day trippers having to move on after their drinks/lunch and knowing we got to stay there.

Room Tip: Sea views are best in our opinion but the all looked well appointed from what we could see.

Remember that feeling of excitement that washed over you when you found something special...like a beautiful shell on the beach when you were a kid and you thought it was magic left by the fairies....? Well I had that feeling over Christmas when I found a shell & an amazing coastal retreat in my favourite Yorkshire coastal town Filey......Yep Downcliffe House Hotel really is a gem with incredible views combined with high spec interior features, top class food and amazing service. Can't wait to go back to experience what undoubtedly has to be one of the best hotels in the area.

Room Tip: You won't be disappointed as all rooms are kitted out to a very high spec, we were lucky and got...

This was our third Christmas at the Downcliffe and, again, our four night break was tremendous. Darren, Lizzie and the rest of the staff provided excellent service, superb food and wonderful hospitality. Keep up the good work! We will be back, without doubt.

Firstly the location is spectactular, overlooking the bay. You are greeted with a warm welcome with fires in the bar and restuarants (although they are gas fires), it was lovley and warm however. Decor is tasteful and contemporary. Our table was in the window and looked directly onto the sea with the moon glinting off the surf. Service excellent and food amazing. The Ginger pig is highly recommended. Pudding platter to share was to die for.

Stayed here 3 nights, 2 nights B & B and evening meal just B & B 3rd night. We were a party of 6. Very pleased with our room, beautifully decorated, very glam dressing table, mirror and bedside tables. Lovely big walk in shower in the bathroom. Food was lovely on both nights as were the breakfasts, fresh fruits, yoghurts cereals, porridge and of course full English breakfast. The price of drinks a bit steep, 5 star hotel prices in a city, this hotel is very nice and trendy but it is not 5 star. Only a small bar and seating area for drinks before dinner but not a problem whilst we were there but could be if the hotel was full. All in all an enjoyable stay and myself and husband would stay again, not sure about the rest of our party.

Room Tip: Got to be the rooms with a sea view
