“A great budget stay.”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

Booked in the Station after wild camping our way along the Cleveland way over six days, turned up a little muddy and somewhat smelly. Staff were great, the young lad who took us to our room even offered to carry my rucsak!
The room we had (No 3) looked recently redecorated but did need a few finishing touches in bathroom. However, room was as described with tv, microwave, toaster, tea/coffee making, shower gel, shampoo... Shower area could do with sealer re-touching in places but wasn't bad, the rest of the room was spotless!
Breakfast (pre-paid at £5.40 each) entailed endless orange juice, seven choices of branded cereals and hot drinks (tea/coffee) folllowed by a cooked breakfast; my mate (whos a big eater) couldnt finish his full English, i had scrambled eggs and toast which were lovely.
Staff were freindly and very chatty both interested in our walk and offering ideas of things to do around Filey.
All in all a great stay, i think the room cost us £20 each; I'm unsure what people who have writted poor reviews expect for that!

We booked this place for two nights after seeing the reviews , but I a think they must have been talking about a different place !! The room was awful , dirty headboard , had to ask for a sheet to cover it up . The small but grubby area which had a small fridge , microwave , kettle , had a mug tree with dirty chipped mugs . The bathroom was useable , but the shower had black in the corners and was not pleasant ! We asked for clean towels the next day as our room was not serviced at all during our stay , and was told towels were only changed once a week . The breakfast was like a transport cafe one , couldn't eat it , and only had cereal and toast the next day . We prepaid £8.95 each for breakfast what a let down .

Not quite sure what this guest was expecting. The booking was made from our own website which gives a clear picture of what our accommodation is. On our website we include reviews from Trip Advisor, LateRooms and our own guestbook of which there are over 100. All I can suggest is that if a guest wants a 4 or 5 star hotel then please stay in one - we advertise as 2 star accommodation with prices to match.

Specifically,
The vast majority of our guests find the kitchette a bonus and don't describe it as 'grubby'.
The suede headboard is not dirty but admittedly it is discoloured.
Rooms are serviced every other day unless guests request otherwise and this guest was advised of this - bearing in mind this was a two night stay. They were not told towels were changed once a week.
Breakfast was prepaid at £5 not £8.95. Our breakfast consists of fruit juice, tea, coffee, a choice of cereals and full cooked English breakfast with toast. Another guest who had breakfast the very same day left a note on our website guestbook 'the breakfast was excellent (definitely not greasy!!!!!) One of the best we have had'.
This guest was very rude to our English staff (we only have English and Scottish) and I note that the only good reviews given on TripAdvisor are in Scotland and abroad.

Unfortunately we will not please everybody, and I'm sorry on this occasion, but thankfully our occupancy is almost 100% and according to our LateRooms reviews 92% would return.

We stayed at the Station for a week. We were on a bit of a budget and you definatley get more than you pay for. The chalet was spotless, complementary clean fluffy towels and toiletries. Everything you need if you plan to eat in. Staff were so welcoming and polite. They went out of their way to help you. Although the pub was quite close, we didnt really hear much noise. The food was lovely and the portions were really big, again you get more than you pay for. Everything was close by and we are planning on going back soon.

My review is only for the food here, as we stayed elsewere in Filey. Came to this place after looking for dog friendly pubs/eateries on the internet whilst on my mobile phone. In filey for the day, just had my two labradors on the beach and in the sea, myself and hubby fancied some lunch, so after a walk round to dry the dogs off, and a quick google search, we found The Station. On first entering the pub, i approached the bar, and asked the barmaid were we could sit with the dogs, she said only in the conservatory, but there was only one little sofa which somebody was already sat on, i went back to her and she asked a collegue who then informed her dogs were also allowed through to the lounge area. Found a nice little cosy table in the corner, but to be honest nobody else was in, we could have sat anywere. Decor very dated, a mismatch of pictures and photos and nick-nacks all over the place, looks like you are caught in a seventies time warp lol, but dont let this put you off. Ordered a large coffee and half a coke....very good prices £1.95 for both, back home we would pay amlost that for the coke alone, and when i say large coffee...omg! it was easily enough for 2 ppl, the cup was almost as big as me lol! Menu is usual pub grub, but all stated as being " homemade" spag bol, chilli, cottage pie ect....i opted for the lasagne which came with homemade chips, side salad and slice of garlic bread....hubby chose the Lamb burger and chips. When the meals arrived on our table, i was pleasently suprised, the portions were huge!!! Lasgne was to die for, really meaty and lovely, and what a lovely chage to get homemade chips instead of these frozen ones you tend to get everytime you have a pub meal. The side salad was lovely and fresh and plenty of it. My husband's lamb burger came with a pot of minty garlic yogurt, which was gorgeous...the burger was a double stack , two burgers in one bun....again lovely homemade chips included. My husband said it was the best meal he had eaten this year! .....our tasty meals prompted us to return on the Sunday to sample the sunday lunch, i really wanted to try the homemade steak pie, my hubby plumped for the beef. Again meals were on the huge side, even though the portions were stated as regular, and you could order a large portion. Good offer....two sunday dinners for £10.95. Nice jug of homemade gravy ( no granuels here!).....although my only gripe is although very tasty, i prefer my gravy a bit thicker. Steak pie absolutely to die for!!! reminded me of my childhood, just like my mum used to make. really tender meat, and loads of it, lovely shortcrust pastry. Mash and roasties included, three veg, and stuffing. Hubby said his was nice, although his beef a little over cooked. The only thing that let the sunday dinner down was the frozen yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes.....if you are going to make fresh veg and home made pies and meals, why spoil it with then using frozen ready made yorkie puds and roasties? What a shame. Nevertheless, i would recommend this place, Andy the landlord is a lovely friendly guy, felt very welcomed by the staff and most important of all....DOG FRIENDLY!!!

Thanks for the feedback it's always useful. Not sure when you stayed with us but we've had a refurbishment during May so it looks quite different now inside and out. Glad you enjoyed our food - the roasties are actually always fresh (same potatoes as the chips) and cooked in dripping!

The hotel offered good value for money and a decent room. Unfortunately it also came with loud noise outside the rooms until 5am, if you are looking for a room to sleep in this probably isn't the best option

Unfortunately your stay was during the Filey Folk Festival which we are the main venue. We do not close until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays and in this case Sunday. On the night you stayed the pub was closed by 2.30am so I can only assume the noise was from other guests or elsewhere. To avoid this in future we can use a facility with LateRooms which advises potential guests of events at the venue. Thank you for your comments.

The station accomodation is great value for money. We stayed one night and so wanted a basic bed and breakfast setup. The station was a bargain at £35 including breakfast for two. The rooms are across a yard from the pub, so it is very quiet and not disturbed. You have your own front door to come and go as you please and can exit via an external gate to the street. The bed was comfy, room was warm, towels etc of a good quality and complimentary toiletries were a nice touch. The place even had a kitchen area with sink, cupboards full of cutlery and crockery, a fridge and a microwave. This exceeded expectation considering the price. A lovely room and a very enjoyable stay. Breakfast served a quiet pub room overlooking the courtyard. A very high quality and well cooked breakfast, cannot complain! Lovely! The staff were welcoming and friendly. The pub itself was very quiet (we went on a monday) which suited us fine. If you are after a more lively time maybe stay on the weekend as they seem to offer lots of entertainment! A great value stay, comfortable and relaxing. Great place for short stays. Thankyou to the staff at the station.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3. Very quiet, no noise from rooms either side and none from the pub. Only the sou...
