This is a local for us and we ve been a few times to eat, lots of times for drink and in the past have recommended. This time was sadly very average and below expectations. The view is the best on the east coast in our opinion and on a rare (this year!) lovely evening we decided to head here for a bar meal over looking the fabulous view.
I plumped for the crab salad served with new potatoes and my partner the gammon, both were £12plus. We sat enjoying the view having our drinks - love the McGuigans wine and great to have by the glass.
I was dismayed when the crab arrived, served in the shell having been expertly dressed by I hope a local, with a handful of mixed leaves, 1/2 a tasteless tomato, 4 cucumer slices and a little sliced golden delicious. IMO this is not a salad worthy of the crab and a huge let down. I would have preferred just the crab with some nice bread if there was nt the salad available. A request for mayonaise and vinegar brought an array of the plastic sachets - sorry but for me this misses the mark and a request for more mayonaise - there was only 1 in the pot- took minutes to arrive, to be asked is this too late is not good enough. The gammon was average and was not best presented.
I hope the head chef was having a night off, and when finally paying the bill we were asked was everything ok.. we did say no it was not up to our expectations. We were offered a drink , but were already on our way out and so declined the gesture.
We ll venture again I have no doubt, everyone can have an off night but many won t be so forgiving when there's plenty of opposition.

I am so sorry that you were dissapointed with your meal on this occassion.

The Crabs that we serve in the Hotel are brought into the kitchens fresh from Filey Bay and boiled and dressed on the premises. They are served whole in a variety of dishes and the meat is used in anything from sandwiches to Crab Cakes and Souffles. We always seek to use local ingredients for our meals and snacks - you can't get much more local than out of the Bay - just a stones throw away from the Dining Room and Terrace Restaurant.

Our Dressed Crab Salads are presented to make the most of the Dressed Crab. Whilst the salad ingredients used may vary from day to day to take account of seasonal availability - they are always served with a bowl of steaming hot buttered new potatoes. If you prefer bread, either sliced and buttered or crunchy french bread, to the potatoes please just ask and we should be happy to oblige

I regret the problem with the accompanying mayonnaise and have taken measures to address this in the kitchen

Kind Regards

The White Lodge Hotel Filey – A good recommendation

As a result of recommendations my family recently stayed at the White Lodge Hotel, which is an imposing, white painted building situated on a delightfully quiet Crescent overlooking the sea.

We stayed in rooms 1 [Sunstar], and 2 [Margaret], both had balconies with views overlooking the beach and Filey Brigg.  Room 1 has a second and adjoining single bedroom.

Although the décor in some locations seems dated everywhere is spotlessly clean and generally well maintained.

Sue [the proprietor] is a delightful host and obviously inspires a well-motivated team.  We would like to thank Sue and Jason [waiters] and Wayne, [barman] for taking care of us during our stay.

Drinks on the balcony outside our rooms will be a memory we will cherish.

Breakfast and evening meal were amply portioned, delightfully cooked and well presented.

The hotel is well located within walking distance to the town centre.  Access to the beach and promenade is down a steep hill, not suitable to people with walking difficulties.

Car parking can be problematic when other non-resident holidaymakers park in the Crescent

We believe the tariff [B & B] for a superior room with balcony looking out to sea, £80 to be good value and competitive on the Yorkshire Coast.

We hope to stay at this hotel again.
Peter M Richardson

Room Tip: Rooms on east side have excellent views of the sea. Sun star has a very useful second single bedroom...

Hopefully next time we are able to welcome you the "dated areas" of our decor will have been addressed in what you will appreciate is a major and continually ongoing program

We stayed at the White Lodge for 3 nights last week. There were 10 of us and we two chose the "de luxe room" which cost us £156 per night including breakfast. The only thing de luxe about the room was the view and the flat screen t.v. How they can charge these prices for a very ordinary, tired and dated hotel beats me. The shower which was situated over the bath was just a trickle as the head was caked in limescale, consequently it trickled at all angles on to the shower curtains which were too short round the bath. Apparently, the other showers were all under pressured. No heated towel rail to dry towels and no heating at all even though the weather was wet and chilly.

Breakfast and evening meal was good with a wide choice. The boy who waited on us was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. However the prices of bar drinks were extortionate.

We have stayed in some lovely pubs in the Dales which were far more comfy and half the price. Won't be returning.

I am so sorry that you did not enjoy your visit to The White Lodge Hotel. Comments such as yours are never pleasant to receive but it is only through valuable feedback that we can maintain and improve improve our offering to customers.
I regret that you did not mention to either reception or a member of the housekeeping staff at the time of your visit that you had a problem with the shower - if you had we would happily have called the plumer to repair it and improve our service to you. Similarly if you had advised us of your problem with the regulation of the background heating or the additional heating provided in the room we could have taken action to address your issues.
As a result of your comments we have improved our signage in each room requesting that guests approach reception with any issues that they have or with suggestions that could improve comfort levels.
Our terms are quoted per person per night. This is stated on all our advertising literatre, on our Web site and was clearly stated at the time of your booking. Your confirmation letter clearly stated our terms per person per night. On check out you commented that you thought that the rate was per room. I can only regret your misunderstanding and any part that the Hotel or its staff had to play in this
Kind regards and thank you for your feedback

We had decided at very short notice to spend a weekend in Filey [see why at end] and to try for a room at the delightful Downcliffe House, where we'd been before They were full and we were told by a local resident that the White Lodge was very nice. It was indeed. Very well kept, easy parking, sea views, lovely, helpful staff, great breakfast, large and well-furnished room, very comfortable bed, spotless bathroom. Thanks to all for rescuing what could have been a disappointing weekend!
[We had intended to stay 2 nights at a hotel in Scarborough but there was so much wrong with it that we paid for one night and left. I don't like rubbishing places and would rather have a quiet word with the management and point out the shortcomings, but one of the more prominent Victorian hotels overlooking the sea on the South Bay at Scarborough is very much in need of restoration.]

We as a family have been going to Filey for years and finally we got to stay at the white lodge for my mother's 60 b'day. The hotel was brilliant with awesome food and quality service. The rooms are a little bit dated but it's Filey not Beverley Hills. The hotel is the only one in Filey so compared to everywhere else it is posh and the staff certainly make you feel posh as the service is second to non, they can't do enough for you. Usually we go to Filey twice as year and if we get to stay at the white lodge again for one of our visits I will be a very happy camper

We stayed at the hotel for New Year. On arrival the room was a little cold and had a slightly damp feel. This quickly cleared with the heating. The staff, service, food was excellent. The lounge with open fires was a real relaxation point. Throughout the stay the staff were attentive, polite and we felt that they had a genuine desire to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Will we go again, yes.
