Really enjoyed our stay...such a treat...we loved everything about it...
...the outdoor hot tub...communal but we had it to ourselves
...the secret beer tap...free and you can have as much as you want if you find it
...our room...loved the Cipriani Palace Theme...all rooms themed on famous hotels from around the world, we liked this one as in the main house, actually one of the cheapest. Some of the more expensive ones are in separate buildings...you might prefer this but we enjoyed being in the main house.
...quirky decor...loved the monster at the top of the stairs...
...canopies in the lounge before dinner
...nice grounds for a stroll
...an amazing dinner at the Crab & Lobster restaurant next door...just amazing, one of our best ever...see separate review
...great breakfast...lots of interesting choices, kedgeree etc as well as Full Yorkshire...Tony had steak, eggs and hash browns
...informal feeling to it yet very special
...great service but very relaxed...we felt very comfortable and at home
...molton brown toiletries
Not cheap but really worth it for a real treat...we came for 1 night and it was such a lovely stay.

A few things would have made it even better but not making a big deal out of these...
...room too hot...we had the window open while at dinner and over night and still woke up in the middle of the night hot
...canapes were complimentary pre dinner in the lounge...a free drink per guest in addition would have been a nice touch
...TV in our room didn't work, didn't let them know as just wanted to relax and sure they would have sorted it but would have been good if it had worked in the first place
...Just a hand held shower over the bath...bath lovely but a proper shower would have been good too

Room Tip: Some of the cheaper rooms are the ones in the main house...we preferred to be in the main house rath...

Took my partner for a birthday treat and stayed over in the main house. The room was lovely and well appointed in a morrocan style, the only down side being you have to share the hot tub unlike the villas which have their own. Free beers on tap in the hallway behind a hidden panel were very welcome.

Food in the restaurant both for dinner and breakfast was exceptional - some of the best I have ever had and that's saying something.

Will go again, probably to a Villa and just wince when its time to pay !!

My husband and i decided to stay on xmas eve as a treat to ourselves. We chose the bora bora room and were seriously excited to have a private hot tub!
We arrived 40 mins early expecting to wait but the room was ready so we were shown to our beautiful room and were not dissapointed-it is stunning. They really have thought of everything and even left a christmas stocking filled with edible goodies.

the hot tub is a real draw and even though the weather was not great we still spent all afternoon in there and all evening after our meal and its not at all overlooked so feels very private. I would definitely recomend to anyone wanting a luxurious night away. I cant wait to go back and try a different part of the world.

Dont know where to start about this place!??
Firstly its only 35 minutes down the road from us and cannot believe weve never been before!!!
So full of life and somewhere you must visit; for food, drinks and accommodation! !
We stayed for a pre xmas and 5 year together anniversary and we couldn't have chose any better place!
We stayed in the Mount Nelson room, very african themed room with lots of character and very spacious too!
4 poster bed and free standing bath in the bathroom.
Complimentary water, nuts and crisps in the room are a very nice touch, as well as the free beer from the hidden tap in the hotel! ( I wont say where it is cos its fun looking for it!)
We had a shared hot tub but nobody else used it which was a bonus!
Staff excellent.
Jenny on reception and Kevin the french waiter, both very friendly indeed and deserve special mention but all were first class!
Food in the restaurant was delicious. Was really michelin star quality but not as expensive, although you are eating quality so expect to pay for it! They have won a number of awards for their food and its really deserved!
We went on a wednesday night which is live jazz night- class! !
Fantastic band and singer!
Breakfast was just as good.
Rib eye steak with eggs and hash browns! !
All in all a great trip!!
Only negative about our stay....

Leaving! !

We will be back to The Crab again!
Thanks

I stayed here for a friends wedding so i got to experience the wedding planning, rooms and food.
This hotel is very quirky, unique and a great venue for a small wedding.
We ate the eveing before, it was quite late and the food was great but barely warm. The house wine however is to die for.

The wedding event was excellent and tey have a wedding planner who was on hand all day. very well organised.

The food again was very average considering the cost per head.

Aside from that its a great place and well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Book in advance if you want a special room...

My wife and I were extremely grateful to receive a number of gift vouchers as a wedding present to use at this venue. We were so looking forward to spending a weekends stay there.
We were advised to book well in advance as the hotel/restaurant can be extremely busy. We had several weekends in mind when we attempted to make a reservation, the preferred being the 20th and 21st April 2014. We were told that those dates were available, however they prefer to keep the weekends free in case anyone would like to book the venue for a wedding, therefore could we ring closer to the date and check its availability! The only other available weekend dates were in March (when we are going skiing) and November! Admittedly we were offered week days and one or two other possibly weekends non of which were suitable.
In short I find that the greed factor is taking precedent over customer service, obviously weddings are far more profitable, this wouldn't have been a problem if our friends had been told about the terms of booking and they could have made a more informed decision before spending £300 on vouchers we are going to find extremely difficult to use because of this policy.
I did contact the hotel and spoke to Christina who offered very little sympathy towards our dilemma stating we could always book for 2015! She was adamant that a refund for the vouchers wasn't possible which seems a real shame considering it wouldn't actually cost them anything!
My advice to anyone considering purchasing gift vouchers for this venue is give cash instead!

You could quite easily run out oif superlatives when describing your experience at the Crab! We have stayed and dined there on numerous occasions and each stay is better than the last. The rooms are unique and quite exquisite. Our recent stay in Burj Al Arab is our favourite and is luxurious and self indulgent. A double aspect second floor manor room with fabulous views over the landscaped gardens. Hospitality is second to none, extremely attentive and sincere without any pretence. The food in the restaurant is of exceptional high standard. We have eaten there many times at different times of the year and celebrated many special family occasions there. We have eaten both dinner and lunch and cannot fault any of the food. The restaurant is an experience in itself in its quirkiness. As I said in the beginning of this review, you can easily run out of superlatives when describing anything about The Crab and Lobster. Can't wait till we return once more for lunch over the Christmas Holidays!
