Description: The George and Dragon Inn is a timeless Victorian gastro pub nestled in the Yorkshire Dales National Park complete with a crackling log fire, traditional ales on tap, a patio with views of Pen Hill and rustic walls decorated with framed sketches. We couldn't think of a cosier place to settle in with a bottle of red than the George and Dragon Inn's down-to-earth dining room, and apparently we're not the only ones. With one AA Rosette under its belt, the restaurant is a popular spot for Sunday roasts, afternoon tea and hearty evening meals, and the modern British menu includes signature dishes such as the roast Nidderdale chicken breast served with smoked applewood risotto.

“Lovely food, friendly service”
Reviewed November 6, 2013 via mobile

After staying in the local vicinity and not having had a nice meal all weekend, we looked on tripadvisor and found this place. With 4 children in tour we ventured up the hill from West Burton, on arriving I asked if they were serving food and if the kids were ok to go in, the friendly lady behind the bar made us feel so welcome as soon as we arrived. The lady sorted us a table in a small dining room. It was all very quirky with lots of nice pictures hung around the room. There was lots to choose from on the menu including an early bird special, 1 course £9.95, 2 courses £12.95 or 3 courses £14.95 ( I think), there was a specials board and the usual menu, I opted for the steak and ale pie as did 2 of the children, my husband had the sausage ring with mash and my son had fish and chips, the pies were individual pies served with roasted new pots and chatenay carrots and sugar snap peas....very nice. The fish looked freshly battered and very tasty and the sausage and mash was to die for ( I pinched some of the hubby's)! 2 of the children had deserts, warm apple pie with ice cream and a banana cheesecake which were both lovely. My baby boy was obsessed with Duke the resident dog, following him everywhere, but this wasn't a problem. Will definitely return here if in the area again, thank you for making us welcome and the gorgeous food!

“Fantastic ale, nice food.”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

This is an inn with several dining areas and a small bar. Several local ales on draft, my pint of a Yorkshire Dales Brewery offering from just up the road was the best pint I had in a week a good beer. Extremely well kept and well pulled.

Food very good, well presented, and a bit of a cut above the usual pub grub. Not the cheapest around but good value for the quality.

Friendly and efficient service, this is a great place for a bite and a pint.

“Really enjoyed it”

We were staying overnight so gave it a try and were impressed enough to eat there a second night. They are happy to adapt things on the menu. Service was good and quick and portions generous.

“The best pint of a week long trip”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

Staying over the road at the Cornlee B&B the rather lovely people there had booked us a table at the G&D. Having had a trip sadly lacking in ale I ended up having the best couple of pints of the journey.

I had whitebait to start with which was superb. The Husband had ribs which in all honesty were a bit of a disappointment, Flabby looking and thin sauce. Still, not to worry as locally shot partridge was to follow and that was fantastic.

It's a proper rustic old pub and reassuring that locals obviously drink there. Very friendly staff and great to roll out the door and straight into Cornlee.
