“Christmas Day Lunch”
Reviewed January 12, 2012

My husband and I had Christmas Lunch here. We can honestly say that it was the best meal we have ever had. It was a banquet, and lasted four and a half hours. The atmosphere was great and the staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient. We cannot wait to book for next Christmas, although we go now once a week at least

NOTE: I am reviewing the restaurant only as I didn't stay at the hotel.

I visited the restaurant for the first time in July 2010, and very much hoped to visit again. A trip to see friends down the road gave me another opportunity to visit.

The evening started with a nice pint of Moustache Ale in pub, then moved on to dinner in the restaurant. I opted for the spinach & goat cheese starter and the guinea fowl entree. The starter was a tasty treat, served with a sauce of pesto and pine nuts. The entree was also a delight: perfectly cooked guinea hen with a creamy sauce and wild mushrooms. Along with this I had the house French Merlot was is very reasonably priced at £15/bottle.

My only gripe is one of, unfortunately, my pet peeves, which is wait staff asking if you're finished when there is food still on the plate. Just because other diners at the table have finished their meals doesn't meal that everyone is done, and I certainly was not. I'm sorry, but I don't believe the dining experience should be a race to finish eating at the same time others have. That said, however, the serving staff here are quite young, and the only reason I'm bringing it up is in hopes they or the management will take a hint.

I didn't feel the need for a pudding but there certainly are some nice options to choose from.

All-in-all, an enjoyable experience and evening.

That you very much for the complimentary review.

As for the constructive criticism, i completely agree with your opinion. However i would like to add, unfortunately our two senior members of staff were unable to work last night. Hence, maybe a slight touch of inexperience.

Hope to see you again.

Kind Regards,

John

We took a fabulous value Saturday night dinner bed and breakfast deal. The way it worked was that they allowed us £20 each off the dinner bill. The room was compact but quite well equipped but not really well cleaned (carpet dusty round edges, etc.,)

This is a small hotel with a big restaurant, and very busy on the night we were there. All the options we chose were available, served as quickly as we could have wished and were for the most part delicious and even a bit inventive! We could criticise a ginger sticky pudding which seemed not to have risen, but it tasted so good. The wine list was interesting and we chose a creditable malbec at an acceptable price. Espresso was little better than we expected in a provincial hotel but full English breakfast hit the spot.

All-in-all a remarkably good effort in this dreary part of Lincolnshire. For pet owners, you cannot take dogs through the main entry during food service (quite understandable) so you will have to use an iron fire escape - be prepared.

Tucked away in a quiet little village, off the beaten track but close enough to all amenities in the area. Imposing old manor house now a pub and room and all extrememly tastefully done - retaining all the olde worlde charm.
Friendly, welcoming, excellent food, nice rooms and really good rates - will definately visit again.

Room Tip: I would imagine all were very good.

Stayed for one night only and were very pleased with everything. Our room overlooked the garden. It was comfortable, clean and spacious as was the bathroom. The owners who booked us in (very informal to say the least!) were very friendly and helpfull. We ate here on the evening (in the bar, a few beers etc) and it was spot on. It had a loveley atmosphere.
Breakfast was good too.
Set in a lovely village and we would recommend to friends and colleagues.
We stayed in a 4 star establishment a couple of nights later and it wasn't a patch on this place.
Sorry, can not remember the owners names but would have to say it is a credit to them.

We were on a cycling tour, and the staff could not have been more helpful with the storage of our bikes. The rooms were spotlessly clean as was the place itself. The bar prices were reasonable and the food excellent and value for money The following morning breakfast was just as good and served with a smile.
You would be hard pressed to find anything wrong with the Finch Hatton Arms. Highly recommended.
