Owner description: Experience the height of the fishing industry of Great Grimsby! A job often described as the 'most dangerous peacetime occupation in the UK', these men literally risked their lives in order to bring home fish to a port described as 'the world's premiere fishing port'. Come and see their story!

Great value for all the family. Plenty to see in the museum and lots to interact with. There is also a fishing boat tour which takes 1 hour and you are shown all round the boat.

The best museum in the area, good valuse and intereting refection on the town, particularly interesting if you have no knowledge of the towns heritage and the cod wars

A fantastic visit, very interactive and well set out. The museum first takes you through the history, icelandic cod wars and victorian deck hands. Then you travel through various settings, ranging from an being on deck in the Arctic catching the cod to the fish shops serving it.
You cant go without a visit on the ross tiger, the guide worked on there himself so he knows absolutely everything there is to know, very funny and full of information without being dumbed down, overall a brilliant day out for all the family!

While visiting friends who live locally, we visited the Fishing Heritage Centre. It doesn't sound like it should be a big draw, but I was pleasantly surprised at how interesting and absorbing the visit was. This was also the first visit for my friend, who has lived locally for over 20 years, and he too was impressed.

The centre itself combines information about the history of Grimsby's fishing exploits via static displays, with trawler models, videos, films and manequin-type walk-through displays, showing what life was like on the trawlers and back in Grimsby in its fishing heyday. There were also some interactive displays, although one of them seemed to be out of commission during our visit. Highlight for me was the disply room covering the Cod Wars with Iceland in the 1970s, something I remembered vaguely from childhood, and found extremely interesting to read about now.

The centre appears to have a good cafe and gift shop area, although we only made a brief visit to the latter.

Major highlight of the overall visit was a tour around the actual Ross Tiger trawler, which is berthed very close to the centre. My friend and I were fortunate to have the tour to ourselves and learnt much about the workings of the trawler and its part in Grimsby's fishing history. A mention for the lad Dave who showed us round - excellent detailed knowledge of every part of the trawler, including some good annecdotal information based on the experiences of his own family involved in Grimsby fishing. If you go to the Centre, do not miss out the trawler tour as it is well worth it and extremely informative.

Overall, a great visit - somewhat unexpected, but would highly recommend if you are in the area, to learn all about Grimsby's once-great fishing industry.
