“Nearly Brilliant”
Reviewed October 28, 2013 via mobile

Surprise birthday meal for my step daughter arranged by her boyfriend.
Place was buzzing. Staff were great at the bar.
Our table wasn't in the best position and the staff were a little slow initially.
The menu choices were good and varied. The wine choices though limited were sufficient and priced reasonably.
The food was excellent for the most part. We all had breaded Brie as a starter. Excellent.
Our main courses were good too apart from a couple of niggles. The first of which was the surf part of turf and surf. I don't think three prawns constitutes surf.
Secondly one prawn did not taste clean. My wife had a similar experience with her seafood linguine. Again just one prawn.
However, the overall experience was good and nearly, oh so nearly brilliant.

We had tried lunch here soon after the refurb. That was good.

So we will be back and I will be trying the turf and/surf again.

Dear AquarianBlue300,

Thanks for taking the time to review your evening meal with us here at The Star

We're pleased you enjoyed the food and I have addressed the 'niggles' you had with the chefs but I can confirm that all of our food is meticulously prepared and cooked from fresh.
We review our wine list and menu's on a regular basis so if there is a particular wine that you enjoy please make our bar staff aware and we will do our best to add it to our menu.

If the Surf and Turf took your fancy, don't forget that Wednesday is Steak Night - 2 for £22!

We look forward to seeing you again soon

Kind regards,
Nicole

“Delicious meals and fresh ales”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

We have eaten at the Star Inn many times over the past 20 years, each time we visit Thrussington. We are very impressed with the improvements which have been made in recent years to the building, and the changes in the restaurant, the pub area, and the menu are wonderful. The new decor is inviting and stylish, yet the pub still has a country feel to it. They pull Timothy Taylor's Landlord, which is our favorite. The menu is varied, depending on the night of the week, and we have enjoyed all our choices. Our all-time favorite has been the pork belly with shrimp, which is outstanding. Recently we ordered the warm brie with bacon, walnut, apple and celery salad, followed by the haddock with hand-cut chips. Our server recommnended the meringue with hazelnuts and ice cream for dessert and it was wonderful. A few nights later we ordered the stilton pannacotta starter, and we were absolutely thrilled with it. This was followed by the rump of lamb and the king prawns for our mains, both of which were outstanding. We had enjoyed the hazelnut meringue so much on our previous visit, we ordered it again for dessert. We love to eat in this restaurant and to have pulled pints of Timothy Taylor as well. It is one of our favorite places to dine while on our twice a year visits to the UK. We will be back on our next trip, guaranteed!

“Fur coat no knickers”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Very disappointing experience. Maitre D, varied and expensive wine choices.......all looks good (for those wanting the city type wine bar in a country pub) but when it comes down to the food - very disappointing, bland and poor quality. We had steak and fresh fish, no taste in either dishes. Sauce very watery, presumably to make it go further. Two tables were already complaining about their food when we were being served. Wouldn't recommend and wouldn't go back.

We have been compared to a city restaurant in the countryside before, normally take that as a compliment as we do try and offer something different to the usual country pubs.
Most of our guests do actually appreciate this and our wine list is not expensive, we have a great selection of great value wines, normally something for everyone.
The usual feedback on our Food and in particular our Steaks and Fish is that they are great quality, flavour and good value, certainly not bland.
We are not a formula restaurant chain serving pre-prepared food from the freezer, it may vary but we do aim to offer quality and something different to most.
We can't please everyone but we do our best and most like it.

“Excellent service and food”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Went to The Star Inn for Sunday lunch as a party of 8 following a recommendation from a friend. The food was excellent with all meals being served at the same time and the service was superb. A month later we booked for an evening meal for 4 on a Saturday. Again, the meal was lovely and the service excellent. We have already booked to return in a months time taking another set of friends to introduce them to this great place.
