We visited twice for the afternoon tea in the last year. On both occasions we were disappointed. Expensive, not tasty and the service is appalling. As an example we were served a pot of tea and the jug of milk arrived 10 mins later. No offer to get a fresh pot of tea. By that time the tea was undrinkable. No point to raise concerns. The waiters and their manager cannot be asked, despite that on both occassions the Orangery was not busy and had less than 10 tables booked. Tonnes of better places in the region. Grounds and decor amazing but service lets the place down.

Thank you for your review.
I am so sorry that you were disappointed with your visit on 9th April for afternoon tea and that our staff were not made aware of this on the day and given the opportunity to immediately rectify the shortcomings of the drink service for you. I am pleased however, that following your later Email directly to the Hotel, that my Food and Beverage Manager has been able to speak with you personally and that you will be visiting us again in July. I am also pleased to learn that you have previously enjoyed visits to both the Hotel and Theatre and we look forward to welcoming you back on many future occasions.

Had a wonderful afternoon tea a Kilworth House Hotel yesterday with family, who were staying there, lovely selection of sweet and savoury sandwiches and cakes, as much tea as you liked, staff were very attentive, nothing too much trouble. The hotel is in a fabulous location, and very impressive, the grounds and gardens wonderful. Every where is pristine, one of the cleanest hotels I have ever been in, will definately be back next time to stay there.

We recently attended a family Birthday celebration at the Kilworth House Hotel for Sunday Lunch.

We had heard great things about this establishment, and were very impressed as we drove up the long drive to the elegant country mansion that is, Kilworth House Hotel.

The main event of course was the lunch itsself. I chose the Ham Hock as a starter, Roast Strip of Beef for main, and Cheese & Biscuits for dessert.

The Ham Hock was accompanied by pickled vegatables - very nouveau cuisine, and hard to see, it was billed on the menu as having a parmesan sauce, which was in fact a tiny pea sized blob.

The Beef was plentiful in quantity, medium rare and accompanied by a large Yorkshire Pudding and 3 small roast potatoes and a small quantity of Red Wine Jus. Vegetables were served in a separate serving dish and comprised of Sliced Carrots, Mange Tout, Courgette and cauliflower.

The main issue for me was that the plated meal arrived luke warm on a luke warm plate, and the food very soon become cold. It was very dry and I had to request a further portion of Red Wine Jus which came in a tiny sauce boat which we shared between 3 of us. The vegetables were fine and hot, if somewhat unimaginative.

The Cheese and Biscuits comprised of 3 small tasters of cheese - Stilton, Brie & Cheddar, and 6 small Water Biscuits. It was accompanied by chutney and some strips of celery. I would have expected a more imaginative selection of crackers, possibly even home made at such a grand establishment.

Overall, I felt that is was very over priced at £28.95, and have enjoyed much hotter and tastier food at many a carvery for a fraction of the price!

Kilworth House - a beautiful setting, but you must do better with your very average food.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel like very welcome house guests. The hotel is a beautifully restored Victorian mansion. We were there in the middle of March and the log fires made this huge home very cosy. The hotel was very comfortable throughout. The decor was stunning and the staff were universally friendly and attentive. Breakfast was excellent. We enjoyed our dinner in the Orangerie. We hope we will find time to go again!

Kilworth is local to us, yet despite being on the doorstep has warranted an indulgent overnight stay on several occasions. It's in a lovely location, with grounds for strolling in, an open air theatre to enjoy in the summer (rug over the knees provided if it gets chilly!) and delicious tea and scones for the more wintery days.

It's just a gorgeous place, for a leisurely lunch, a coffee with friends, or a well deserved break.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely but ask for the named ones in the main building eg Wordsworth - they are more e...

The location of this stately home come hotel/function venue is brilliant if you're visiting the leics/northants region.
The bedroom we had in the new wing was a bit cluttered with all the furniture but items you'd expect where missing eg slippers, a 2nd robe. Electric sockets on the dresser/desk are too low & plugs for electronic devices, hairdryer etc couldn't fit in!
We sat for 15mins in the lounge before a member of staff, wearing an ill fitting suit, acknowledged us & appeared shocked when we only wanted drinks; we'd dined elsewhere.
We found the breakfast cold buffet to be pretty sparse. Processed wrapped cheeses, no cold meats, tinned fruit, dried up pastries. The only nut to be seen was in the cereals. My hot breakfast arrived with soggy bread, when pointed out to the waitress I was informed 'you get that with poached eggs'. Well you don't if they're drained & dried properly which one would expect from a hotel of this alleged calibre.
We got the impression this hotel is more suited to running functions rather than catering for individuals/couples on a weekend break. I found other guests also appeared to have been treated with a similar kind of dis-interest. Except the bar man on the 2nd evening seems to think I was 'his darling'! Ermmm I don't think so.
A nice touch to be offered fresh tea delivered to your room in the morning.
The name badges of the staff are so dark (black) you can't read them made even worse by the dark coloured uniform they wear. Management/supervisors need to be provided with proper fitting suits.
Sadly we didn't get chance to walk around the gardens, but they looked stunning.

We had hoped to book Kilworth House for the weekend of our 40th wedding anniversary for a family party. They were however booked for a another large celebration so we took the family elsewhere for lunch on the Sunday and my husband booked a room and dinner for the Sunday night for the two of us. We were offered the taster menu in the Wordsworth dining room and this was confirmed by letter. When we arrived we were told that only the Orangery would be serving meals and the taster menu was not available. The only menu was Sunday Lunch and not wanting to repeat what we had already had we asked for the room service menu and chose steak. We were told that it was not steak it was roast beef so we asked for catch of the day but that too was the same as the lunch menu - salmon. We were given a bottle of wine for our disappointment. The room was certainly lovely and the next day when my husband again complained that a special occasion had been spoiled they offered us the taster menu on a date of our choice . This we recently took advantage of and again bitterly disappointed. This was not a taster menu. It was four courses with no choice except lamb or fish for the main course and a second pudding or cheese for the fourth. The first course was a tasteless risotto with tough pigeon. The lamb was fine tho not especially tasty but was served with a deep fried sweetbread that was cold and raw under the breadcrumb coating. The pudding was not what was on the menu and was indifferent. The cheese course was ok but certainly not the gastronomic experience that we have always enjoyed with taster menus at other restaurants. It was neither a taster menu nor a good a la carte. The service was good but I am sorry, we would not return
