“A Delight”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

Spent a few days at Kilworth House whilst visiting relatives, this was our third stay.Kilworth is a beautiful hotel full of character and charm. We booked the Tennyson Room, well worth it,it is a beautiful room delightfully designed and decorated and of great importance ,spotlessly clean.
The staff were professional, courteous and friendly without being intrusive. There is a sense of calm all around,an excellent spot for relaxation much needed in all our busy lives. If you want to invest in a little bit of luxury in welcoming surroundings then Kilworth is the place for you.

The starter was great but the went quickly downhill from there. General taste of the mains were ok, but no where near the worth the costs, lack of crisp on the crackling, then whilst some mains were ok with the other diners the desserts were consistently poor across the table. The bake well tart was so deconstructed it bore no resemblance to the original in depth of taste, and the cheesecake lacked all the flavor it was supposed to contain namely baileys.

I enjoy a relaxed meal like most but it was over 2 and half hours before coffee arrived. Having been here previously it seems profit has been placed before service, they even charged for petit fours (which came in pairs)

We booked a garden room and took advantage of the spring offer of dinner, bed and breakfast. Staff were very friendly and courteous throughout the stay. Hotel was very sumptuous and everything was clean and fresh. There was an evening of musical theatre at the same time with lots of couples eating and watching the show but at no time was noise an issue. Our meal was from the table d'hôte menu and of a good standard for hotel food. The Wordsworth room was an elegant place to eat and staff were attentive. The room was lovely, with turn down service (and complimentary cuddly sheep!). Fluffy bathrobes were provided as well as Clarins toiletries. All-in-all a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: You pay £75-100 extra for a really impressive room, however the garden rooms are still lovely.

We have been visiting Kilworth regularly for 8 years now, for the milestones in our lives and sometimes just to relax, and have always been reluctant to leave.
Our visit on Easter Sunday though did not go as smoothly as we have come to expect.
I had booked an overnight stay with dinner in the Wordsworth about 6 months ago as it was our 36th wedding anniversary and we where being joined by my husbands brother and his wife to celebrate her birthday. On checking in the receptionist confirmed the booking in the Wordsworth as she did with my brother in law, and we where all looking forward to a beautiful a la carte meal that evening.
Unfortunately when we went down to dinner we where offered a new menu which is an extention of the Sunday Lunch menu, we accepted this without comment as we have enjoyed many sunday lunches at Kilworth. But when the time came to go into dinner we found out that we where in the Orangery as the Wordsworth was closed. We where offered our wine free of charge as compensation and a nice quiet table in the Orangery which we accepted.
Our waiter at dinner was very good and our starters where excellent, but I am afraid when our main courses arrived they where cold. The waiter dealt with this immediately and fresh meals where cooked, which where delicious!
From then on everything ran as smoothly as we have come to expect. Our room was a haven of peace and tranquility and as comfortable as ever and breakfast was a delight.
It will not put us off going again as we are already looking forward to our next visit and talking of booking our normal family get together at Christmas, and if we had been told on check in about the dining changes I would not be writing this.
I did tell the receptionist all of this when I checked out as I feel that all feed back should be given at the time, so I hope that my comments where passed on.

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing!

We have eaten here a few times and the concern is that it might not be as good as previous visits, this was not the case.

We thought it had improved in as much as Afternoon Tea was brought out separately, sandwiches first and then cakes.

For me the service always exceeds here every time, attentive and truly showing interest and time in you - just delightful and extremely good value for money.

I will never understand why it is so difficult, almost impossible to replicate service like this; visit, you won't be disappointed, and if you are still unsure just visit and have a drink, the surroundings are beautiful as are the lavatories!

Stunning entrance and grounds. VERY helpful and friendly staff. Victorian grandeur. Weddings but so much space there is no intrusion for a romantic couple not part of the wedding party. Ample parking. Even the most basic rooms are luxury. Breakfast excellent in a huge conservatory.

The fine dining restaurant (£50 per head) was a set tasting menu (with limited choice) and should also offer another fine dining menu for those not wishing that tasting menu. Would be 5 stars but the evening tasting menu was not to the usual high standards - tough pigeon, somewhat bland courses, although the main course was excellent. But, it STILL is a great place to stay.
