“Excellent Weekend Escape”
Reviewed April 9, 2014

Excellent Hotel. Agata on reception went out of her way to ensure our stay was more than we anticipated. The food in the restaurant was perfect, the room was lovely and had amazing views of the lakes at the rear of hotel. We took full advantage of a superb breakfast, enjoyed a walk around the lakes then relaxed in the spa. Overall a wonderful weekend escape. I would definitely recommend it

Room Tip: Room 402 has excellent view of the lakes and gardens at rear. This is an Exec Double

What a lovely hotel! as you enter the driveway, you are greeted with a super view of the front of the hotel with fountain. the newer wing of bedrooms and the leisure facilities are joined to the old hall but not in a way that ruins the view or layout.
The reception is in a beautiful entryway with the grand staircase on the left. staff were very friendly and helpful which was a good job as finding your bedroom can be an adventure! The signage directing you to the rooms is sometimes not easy to find or in some cases, even there.
The bedroom was small but comfortable. I was in the main hotel with a view over the front of the hotel and fountain. I was a little disappointed that my bathroom did not actually contain a bath, but it was clean and serviceable.
Dinner was lovely and as I had hoped with a rosette restaurant. Service was good and the staff friendly and efficient.
The breakfast at the hotel was plentiful and fresh. A plated hot service and a buffet continental. Service was good if a little intermittent - I asked for extra toast which never came, but the food itself was super.
The leisure facilities are in need of a refurbishment, and I believe this is in the plan. the Swimming pool is more like a pond - I ended up swimming in circles as lengths were impossible.
All in all a lovely hotel with good service and great character. it will definitely deserve 5 stars once the leisure facilities are updated.

Stayed at this pleasant hotel on 4th April 2014 - 6th April 2014. Me and my partner stayed in one of the new refurbished rooms which was requested by myself after reading the reviews previously. It was an excellent room, only negative that I can think of was that the bed was two put together but thats me being petty. Everything else was excellent, shower was brilliant would be perfect if it was a bit more powerful but again thats just preference, the temperature made up for that and it was lovely. The decor was nice and finishings were of a good standard. The room location was perfect for us, we were right near the restaurant/lounge. We had dinner on the first night and paid £20 each for this online. Arriving at dinner the staff were extremely pleasant and friendly throughout the whole hotel. We were seated and given the menu or the set menu which costs £25 per person and we were told that when you pay online for the £20 dinner the hotel adds a £5 allowance onto this. We chose the set menu which was starter, main and dessert. We had the leak and potato soup for starters which was just beautiful, tasted really nice. I had the lamb shoulder for my main with creamy mash which was cooked to perfection, my partner had the chicken with creamy mash and the chicken was slightly dry but tasted nice. For dessert we both had the lemon tart which was sadly disappointing, it had not set properly and just fell apart on the plate, but it still tasted nice. On both nights that we stayed there was a wedding taking place so expect loud music until early hours of the morning, we did not complain as its nothing the hotel nor guests can really do about it and we still managed to get to sleep. On both days we stayed we had breakfast included in the rate, they had a buffet style breakfast which I believe was due to the amount of people that were staying in the hotel, but no complaints here, the food was excellent, good amount of choice and fresh produce for selection. We had afternoon tea on the saturday for two and this was so lovely, you get a good selection of sandwiches, good selection of cakes/scones and lovely jams & clotted cream with tea to go with. It was nice to sit in the restaurant, take in the lovely view and relax. We then decided to make a trip to the Trafford Centre for some shopping, it took us around 20mins from the hotel to get there, easily got there fine with the help from the sat nav and we spent the afternoon there. The hotel is in a good location, set on a quiet road. The hotel staff were excellent and friendly towards us. The only negative I have is the leisure centre, it is quite a walk away from the main hotel bit and not really well signposted. We did make our way down there but when you get there the tiles are cracked and one wall is mirrored, the pool is small but the sauna/steam room and jacuzzi looked fine. It was a good stay, we travelled from cambridge as we wanted to get away for the weekend and it was nice to stay for 2 nights. I would recommend this hotel but I would advise requesting the refurbished rooms as I did read some not so great reviews about the older rooms. But overall the stay was great.

Room Tip: Request the refurbished rooms if you can

As ever the food was just delicious and the staff, especially Agata are a total credit to the hotel, friendly and approachable. Will be returning in the Autumn.....please please please let the fire be working.....this will make the lounge area perfect!!

Overnight Stay for Business, Slightly out of the way so plan to either eat in the hotel or it's a short drive to the local ammenities.

Ample Parking - Well equipped Gym, Swimming Pool And Sauna. All well maintained. Gym was pretty quiet when I was there which is always a bonus.

Lunch & Breakfast - Both were great, well cooked and presented etc.

Staff - On every occasion they were polite and helpfull a credit to the company.

I will be back again when next in the area.

Stayed at hotel with my sister as part of a spa break. Agree with all comments about ample parking, stunning location, wonderful surroundings and peaceful setting. The standard of food is very good too but the staff need to be mindful of keeping the buffet items stocked up. The recently refurbished public rooms and bedrooms are fabulous but the jewel in the crown must be some of the staff. We were welcomed by Agata, whom we have met on a previous visit. Her attention to detail is second to none and she is always prepared to go the extra mile to ensure that guests have a great stay. She is the consummate professional -every hotel should have someone on their management team like Agata if they care about customers. On our previous visit she was the only member of staff who both listened to, and dealt with our concerns. Because of this, we returned for another spa break.
Anthony on spa reception and Elena our therapist, both deserve a special mention too. The overnight spa package is very good value especially with a 15% reduction on additional treatments. Try it- you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: The older part of the hotel has bedrooms with more character

Stayed here at end of March - 2 nights on business. Probably the best hotel in Wigan. Great grounds, massive car park, stunning reception and bar - beautiful decor. Rooms lovely. Gym was really good too - large. Best thing though? The staff are so helpful & friendly & make your stay really special.
