We had booked various hotels for our tour through North England, and we tried to stay within a budget, mainly choosing between cozy B&Bs and Premier Inns. When we drove into the MacDonald Kilhey Court's entrance way, we wondered if we had made a mistake - the place looked like an English country estate. But we were correct, and you can get an excellent spa and countryside experience for a good price.

Rooms are spacious and clean, the bath is very good with a decent shower, and we especially liked the spa area, which featured a nice pool, a jacuzzi, and four different saunas.
The restaurant is a little upmarket, but food was very good, and prices were justified for the quality and the setting.
We did not have breakfast as we had an early appointment at the Three Sisters Racecourse nearby.

If you want to dream of English country living, this gives you a glimpse of it at a low cost.

A group of eight of us stayed here for a spa break. The spa was brilliant, lovely staff, fab surroundings & very nice products used. The hotel was dreadful. The lounge area was filthy, the furniture was very dusty & caused one of our group to have an asthma attack. Our hotel rooms were in need of updateing & these were also very dirty. The lady who had the asthma attack had to leave in the middle of the night as she couldn't breath due to the dust on the furnishings. The food in the restaraunt was OK but nothing to make me go back. I left a message for the manager to call me to discuss our experience, I also called the hotel as he didn't bother to get in touch with me & I was told he would definately call me the following day, he didn't. Obviously he doesn't care that we had an awful time in his hotel.

Shown to table in restaurant - salt cellar missing & cutlery was dirty.
Had slice of black pudding with poached egg for starter - rip off at £6.95.
Small pork steak and a small portion of fries - £13.95 (rip off).
Bath had black hairs stuck to it & room although a double was quite compact with nowhere to place my suitcase.
Location was nice and quiet which was the best feature.

My husband, teenage daughter and I enjoyed a comfortable and relaxed stay at the Kilhey Court a couple of weeks ago. During our stay, we used the swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms, and had a delicious evening meal and breakfast the following morning. Staff were friendly and welcoming in all areas of the hotel and our rooms were clean, and comfortable. Kilhey Court is in a beautiful setting and while we were there, a wedding was taking place and another couple had arrived to arrange theirs. In no way did the wedding disturb our stay as this took place in a separate annex. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable stay, thank you!

Room Tip: If possible, choose a room overlooking the front of the building. I have only given an average ratin...

We stayed here recently for a wedding. We didn't use the spa facilities, but we found our room to be perfectly comfortable, the breakfast was very good and in a lovely setting, the rooms where the wedding were held were beautiful and the service was excellent. This all for a little more than the cost of a chain budget hotel.

We were recently married at the Kilhey Court Hotel. The venue speakers for itself and on the day the weather was a real Spring day, sunshine and clear skies. Early in the logistical mine field of organising the big day there were a few problems which could have changed our perspectives of the Hotel management and the venue. However, a few phone calls and meetings later the Hotel management were able to resolve all of our concerns.

The day itself went smoothly coordinated by Jen our master of ceremony who should be highly recommended for all these occasions. The food was as we had specified and served piping hot to all guests throughout the wedding breakfast. All of the staff from administrative to catering were professional at all times.

We had a great day which we will remember thanks to the staff who were on duty that day and to the wedding coordinator who was always available to contact.

I recently attended a wedding at this hotel. Whilst the bride and groom spoke highly of the place (the wedding was perfect according to those that mattered) my experience as an evening guest was poor when it came to the bar. The prices were high, the service indifferent and I was even short-changed by the surly barman. Just a heads-up to count your change BEFORE leaving the bar!

Just to be fair, my wife has stayed here in the past and enjoyed the whole weekend. I write only of my experience at the bar, with one barman on one evening.
