Stayed at the Brittania to break up along car journey, with my Family, this Hotel does not filll you with confidence as soon as you see it, to say it looks tired from the outside is being kind.

We booked a family room and I would say it was passable if a bit dated, there were nice touches of fresh fruit and bottled water and the carpets look to be relativly new, but i'm afraid thats the only positives i can give the hotel.

Food was a standard affair of buffet/Carvary not up to much and little choice, breakfast was much of the same except with litres of grease added for good measure, the whole hotel only seams to survive on coach trip holidays, which must make up 90% of there bookings.

Then threre is the "Leisure Club" I can only describe it as" totally disgusting" This place should be condemmed by whoever deals with such things (enviromental health?) This place is rancid, No showers working, No sinks working, No hand wash, No toilets fit for humans, and this was for Male and Female changing, as my wife had the misfortune of having to take my niece swimming as well. As for the pool, if you ever facied a chemical face peal, dont bother just go for a swim in here the chlorine content was off the scale everyones eyes were stinging within 5minutes, also all the covers were broken in the spa, which was just dangerous.

Never Again.

We booked this Hotel as we were attending a wedding in Standish and normally stay across the Road at the Premier Inn but for a change booked into the Britannia, a definate mistake. On arrival the receptionist was to busy talking to a colleague to acknowledge us, she eventually checked us in and charged us £2.00 extra for paying by Debit Card, seems a bit strange that. We stayed in room 156 the headboard was a disgrace as was the carpet the room other than that was ok just very tired. New silicone had been put round the bath but the shower did not work properly as hot water continued to pour out of the tap even though the shower was trickling and my wife scalded her feet. We went to the bar for a drink only to find the girl behind the bar was busy talking to the receptionist and came across to serve us, seemed like it was to much trouble for her, she served us and went straight back to talk to the receptionist. On our return from the wedding we decided to have a night cap before bed. Yet again no one at the bar, after a wait and 3 others waiting a man came to serve us. Breakfast the next Morning was a complete joke. No sugar near the tea/coffee stations (it's all self service). No Bread for the toasting machine, warm orange Juice, dirty plates on the hot food counter and shocking food, half warm sausages, inedible scrambled eggs, collar bacon, undercooked Black Pudding but the Mushrooms were good. The staff in the restaurant are just Kids not attentive enough as dirty plates were left on tables and all tables has signs on saying Coach Holidays we just moved one and sat down. I did fill a survey form in and wrote my thoughts as i have here. the receptionist didn't even ask if we had enjoyed our stay. All in all i will definately not be going back to this Hotel and we were considering going for a 2 night stay at a sister Hotel in Blackpool but this has put us off.

Was very apprehensive after reading some very differing reviews. Was pleasantly surprised and would certainly return there. The staff were helpful, our room was clean and very quiet (considering a wedding party was in full swing late at night!) Dinner was acceptable, good value for money. Breakfast was very good, the only bad comment would be the wait for the toast! All in all,a pleasant stay in a pleasant hotel! Hope others will not be put off by earlier bad reviews. Go there!

I use this hotel on a regular basis for meetings. I have never had a problem. All the staff are helpful and food is always hot with plenty of choice.

It is quite obvious that the hotel is undergoing a lot of changes. There seems to be a new sales team and management. The rooms seem to be undergoing some changes also as there was a huge delivery of new beds last time i was there!

The reviews below seem unfair and dont take in to account the hard work that goes on by the staff.

We stayed in room 146 as we walked to the room you could smell the must and damp the toilet bowl was cracked as was the our drinking cup the bed linen was torn and had marks on them. The dining room was a disgrace. We was at a wedding and I was appalled when they said we had to go outside in the rain and walk round to the other side of the building to go to the evening venue

We have read the reviews of the hotel and thought it couldnt be as bad as stated in some of them. Well it was, we arrived to be given on first imperssion a nice room on the ground floor. afer a few hours I thought I would have a relaxing a bath after laying for in the quiet for a few minutes I could hear running water. My parter investigated to find the toilet leaking from an already damaged pipe(it had had a temporary fix done with tape). By this time we used all the towels to mop the floor as it was flooding. we went to reception where a wedding reception was been held and told the receptionist of the problem she then called the duty manager who said"just move the move them to another room" and stated she was too busy to do anything as she had to stay with the wedding. No apology or anything. WE were given a new room on the second floor facing a wall. I stated we would have to re pack and then un pack again would the new room be an upgrade a stern NO was the reply. Both rooms were in need of at least freshning up. the matress was hard and flat. the double beds are in fact 2 single beds pushed together. The ice bucket in the middle of the reception area to collect rain water as mentioned in a previous posting is also still being used. The bar area is shabby and looks like a poor town center pub. There were a group of locals at the bar and one of them had very colourful language. No one from the hotel told him to be quite or tone his language down. The parting gift from the hotel was the next morning we were getting ready to check out I was in the toilet my partner getting changed in the room when @ 9:05 the housekeeper to come into the room. No knock on the door, check out I thought was 10:00 but she decided she would hurry us along. We didnt waste time in leaving as we had had enough at this time so her ploy to get the work done quicker worked. (well done). There is also a practice we witnessed of one of the members of the housekeeping team walking along the corridors throwing the bedding on the floor out side of the room to be prepaired, Very hygienic i must say also a trip hazzard. I asked at reception what time check out was and the staff shrugged his shoulders and said 10:00 to 10: 30 some times 11:00. I did mention the incident to him and he said he would pass it on to the housekeeping staff. Big deal as that didnt save our blushes. We will never return to this or a britannia hotel due to this expereience.
