Stayed here4 nights we were on a coach tour . The hotel is a budget hotel ur the food we had was good and plenty choice .My only complaint was the room smelt of stale cigarette smoke despite leaving windows open it still lingered . I thought smoking was banned in hotel rooms . There was also an ashtray in the room !!!!!!!

Thankfully we only stayed at this scruffy and tired looking hotel for one night. There were no persons on reception on arrival. After finding someone in in the back office we were given a room (203) which overlooked an enclosed yard being used as a rubbish dump and smoking retreat for the kitchen staff. To add to the scene there was a noisy refrigeration unit on the roof constantly running together with extract vents. We got another room (270) but that had the same view from a different angle.
The carpets and furniture were threadbare and there were damp patches on the ceiling.
Breakfast was awful. No plates on the "hot" buffet. No tongs for the toaster (used fingers) cups but no saucers on tables, and un-managed and un-motivated young feral staff.
The only good thing was that the clocks went forward that night so we had an hour less to suffer this awful place.

Room Tip: Keep to the rooms to the left of reception if you must go there.

Stayed in this hotel as part of an excursion with National Holidays for one night on Saturday 23 March 2013. On arrival at the hotel we had no nice welcome from the reception desk; our room door cards were just thrown to us by a frosty looking girl (with no name badge). Our evening meal wasn't served until 1930hrs, and the level of food was so bad that if our meal hadn't been included in the price we would have eaten at the pub across the road. There was no choice of evening meal, just a set menu. The starter was a salad, consisting of limp lettuce, peppers and cucumber. The first ever salad I have ever been served without tomatoes!! The main course was roast beef, served with CHIPS!!, peas which were on the raw side of al dente, and carrots. Dessert was a chocolate cake with cream, which was stored at an ambient temperature. The serving staff looked like they had just rolled out of bed, and were very scruffy. They also had no name badges so we couldn't complain about them in person. The rooms were extremely tired, and needed a good makeover. The bathrooms were also grubby and not nice. The hotel was very noisy all night long, with children running around, doors banging, and even dogs barking!

Room Tip: Choose another hotel!!

the rooms were good for purpose but the food leaves a lot to be desired, we felt that it didn't matter because we were only there overnight on a coach tour rather than staying for a few days and paying full board.

not a hotel to recommend

We have just been lucky enough to have our wedding at the Britannia Hotel in Standish and we do not have a bad word to say. The staff are the most confident and laid back people we have ever met, Alison the wedding co-ordinator is out of this world, she could not have been more helpful and attentive leading up to and thought out the day of our wedding, the food was lovely and served fast but not rushed. We hired the Brooks Suite for our evening reception after using the main room for our ceremony and wedding breakfast; both rooms were decorated beautifully as we gave our centrepieces and accessories to Alison and set her loose to do whatever she thought was best. We also hired their chair covers and sash's which were luxurious ivory patterned chair covers and very good quality sashes!! We also had a large number of guests stay over and we did not have a single complaint about rooms, all were clean, spacious and nicely decorated as well as reasonably priced. So many of our guests complimented the venue and the service, the night buffet was very popular and plentiful. The men all used the sauna and pool before our wedding which was a great little extra. To sum up... fab venue, fab service and out of this world value!!!

My wife and i spent 4days at Christmas 2012 on a David Urquhart tour from Scotland. On entering our room we noticed the bathroom floor was covered in water, reported to assistant manager John who said someone would come and fix it,STILL WAITING!!!!The food was cold at the buffet and the staff did not know what they were doing. The Christmas night buffet was disgusting,we were second sitting but the "manager" unknown to us and others opened the buffet at 6pm we arrived at the dining room at 7-30PM AND THERE WAS HARDLY ANYTHING TO EAT.Everything was cold and they even ran out of ice and fresh cream, tables were not cleared of used dishes etc. They certainly wasted our Christmas break.Still waiting on an answer to our letter to the so-called manager.
