I spent one night here with 5 other family members to allow for a late stay at a local wedding party. The rooms were reasonable, apart from 1 that had no heating that is, but unfortunately to our annoyance we did not qualify for a breakfast the following morning.
I booked 3 rooms via phone, for 3 couples and confirmed about breakfast in advance, in particular for one of the guest who was gluten intolerant. The man who answered was pleasant and assured that this would not be a problem. No mention about pre booking breakfasts from him or on arrival from the very helpful reception lady.
So we awoke on Sunday morning, slightly weary after the party revelries but nonetheless before 9:00AM and descending into the dining room all with good appetites. We were then informed via the ‘cook’ in the kitchen that we should have pre booked and he was not prepared to serve us since he had, “already cooked for 4 people”, 4 PEOPLE! It would have helped if someone could have mentioned this during our check in if we would like to pre-book a breakfast. I am also not convinced it would have hurt if the chef could have offered us something when we discovered our ‘grave errors’.
During the stay in our rooms each bed was adorned with a small card commenting about internet reviews with the risks to jobs from negative feedback and encouraging their patrons to give any feedback to them instead, face to face. But this was impossible because on leaving, before 10:00AM the hotel was now completely closed apart from a side entrance, via a maze of passageways and the backyard of the hotel.
So I am sorry Windmill Hotel but you are getting a poor review now. Some free advice though to improve your takings would be to optimise your business and remind people of your strict pre breakfast rule BEFORE the breakfast.

    Room Tip: Ask about breafast!!!

My girlfriend and myself booked into the Windmill Hotel for 1 night. On arrival when we into book into our room the staff could not be more helpful and also the room was immaculate also you can commute to Blackburn which is nearby and Preston which is about 4 miles appox from the Hotel

Room Tip: the room that myself and girlfriend stayed in was facing the main road and could not be more quieter.

We stayed because there was a wedding nearby and we were very well looked after. The room was really nice - a pleasant surprise to find some crisps, sweets and water had been put on the table for us for free, we felt really special. This is certainly my choice of hotels for this area as I had another great meal (I ate earlier in the year)

We went to The Windmill for lunch with an elderly relative. The food was excellent and the portions very good. Our elderly relative, not having a big appetite, was very impressed with the "evergreen" menu where portions were smaller. There was a free salad bar with the best selection we had ever seen and was extremely fresh and the drinks were free top ups. We will definitely be going back, especially as there are free kids 3D movies so you can relax and have a drink in peace !!! The staff was very polite and friendly, nothing too much trouble.
