Just spent a lovely couple of days at this great hotel. The staff are excellant and really friendly and helpful. The food choice in the restaurant is nicely varied and really good quality. The rooms are very comfortable (the bed in room 8 is a little too 'bouncy' and soft but that is just my opinion).
The only disappointment was the lack of a view and no comfortable chair in the room but everything else was up to scratch.
The grounds are excellent for wildlife spotting-our day was made to see the barn owl out hunting in daylight,an amazing sight-not to mention the hare, the deer herd and the many different birds.
We will definately make another visit.

What a great night away- upgraded to a suite which was huge and had a queen size bed, enough for anyone and the food was fantastic, both the evening meal and breakfast. Log fire in the main room and a brandy afterwards was just the icing on the cake! Leisure facilities a little worn but ok. Will definately be going back

We stayed here in early February and stopped Friday and Saturday night. We upgraded to one of the suites (room 10) and the room was enormous. It had a large sitting room as well as the spacious bedroom however the best part was the large jacuzzi bath. The food at the hotel was to a very high standard and we ate breakfast and dinner there on both nights. I also like my real ale and the Bowland bitter that was served was excellent.
The staff were attentive and the lounge was great - particularly if you managed to get close to the wood burning fire. We didn't use the leisure facilities because the walks around the area are so great.
All in all a great hotel which I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Ensure you upgrade to one of the suites.

A two night stay was warm and comfortable. We were upgraded to a pleasant large room (22) in the main hotel. Check in was simple and efficient, though the walk (no lift) to the room was quite some trek through 3 sets of doors - though only one flight of stairs. The bathroom was large and well fitted with a stand-alone bath that did, as others have said, take an age to fill. The bed was giant and extremely comfortable (3 pillows wide - a queen size?). The view was OK, but better for taller people, looking over the roof of the lodge. A minor fault was readily rectified, though why a bedside lamp would be missing is a bit of a mystery. Strangely, the "return spring" of the door hits the wardrobe door behind it, but otherwise a well designed and proportioned room.
The log fire in the main lounge gives off a lovely homely smell and plenty of warmth, and all staff were very friendly and helpful. The evening meal was tasty and reasonably priced. Sometimes the lounge area can feel rather hushed, but there's plenty of room, and sitting by the fire was a delight.
But for us the highlight was breakfast - they offered everything I could ever imagine I might want to start the day, all freshly cooked, and for those with a larger appetite, they even come round offering more. Choices include the full English, natural haddock with poached eggs, eggs benedict, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs - you name it, it's available. It's just like you think breakfast used to be - though it probably never was!
There's quite an emphasis on the local wildlife (we saw an owl within minutes of checking in) and nature lovers will enjoy a visit to the hide, about a 3 minute walk across the grounds.
The adjoining pool and spa are somewhat of an oddity, looking incongruously like an '80's addition, but there's an adequate pool and suana, perhaps a little tired-looking, and what looked like a well equipped gym.
On night two, we ate at the local "La Locanda" Italian restaurant, which we can thoroughly recommend. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. There's plently to do nearby, and everyone was attentive and very pleasant - we wouldn't hesitate to go again.
