“second stay”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

Our first visit to the Stirk House was January 2012 as a quick night away and a bit of a treat. We stayed in a lodge room that was quite adequate as I remember. The lodge room having a large window so a good view over the fields. We were impressed by the quality of the service and professionalism of the staff and the delicious food on offer.
So this year we tried it again, this time taking a manor house room.Got to say these are much better than the lodge, nice bathroom, little lounge area and a large bed area with a large bed.The only downside to our room was there was not the same panoramic view but that would not stop me from booking again.
Again lovely, friendly, professional staff and great food both evening meal and breakfast.
Just a little observation in the spa,the steam room and sauna were great but the pool looks a little well used.
Got to say the hotel has a great feel to it and had the added honour of watching a Barn Owl within feet from the hide down in the grounds.
Really like going to this hotel, this stay was as good as the first.Hopefully will be looking to book again soon.
Thanks

Got a KGB deal. Afternoon tea was nice, but the scones were extremely small. Dinner was very good with a varied menu. Lamb was gorgeous. Breakfast had a great deal of variety, though I would not serve cold ham in eggs benedict. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall very good.

My husband and I and 4 friends went to stay overnight at this hotel through groupon we were very impressed with the food and the thought the staff were very good . The only down side were the lodge bedrooms were not very impressive, they were clean but the towels were very thin . Next time we would like to stay in the hotel itself.

This hotel is an absolute gem of a place. Four of us (two couples) stayed for two nights just before Christmas. Clean with comfortable beds, the only minor complaint was that our bedrooms in the Manor House were uncomfortably hot (inspite of trying to adjust the heating and opening windows) which made for rather a restless night.
The food was imaginative and beautifully served both at dinner and breakfast on the two days. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.
A roaring fire and a delicious afternoon tea in the lounge greeted us after long walks and there would seem to be plenty to do locally. All in all a super little hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a Manor House room if possible.

Stayed early January, as a little wind down treat, after the hustle and bustle of Christmas. We spent the morning getting lost in Gisburn forest, (an experience which made us fully appreciate the leisure facilities in the afternoon). After our swim, we retired to the lounge where we experienced a pleasant afternoon tea, Served in front of the open fire which was very welcoming on a cold windy day. Although not full, the hotel had plenty of guests to create a warm friendly atmosphere.

Pre dinner drinks in the bar before being shown to our table. Not much to say about the evening meal except the service and food was absolutely superb; moreover the recommend wine was quite divine and complemented the evening perfectly. The breakfast menu is quite extensive, with the usual ‘full English’ being supplemented (as seems to be the norm now) by a vast array of vegetarian and European concoctions.

Our room was in the lodge, it had a massive bed and lovely panoramic views over the 22 acre garden. We kept an eye out for the deer but did not see them.

Stirk house was just what the doctor order and we definitely will return. Although to take advantage of Stirk house relaxed atmosphere. next time it will be for a couple of days. The complimentary biscuits on departure was another plus. Absolutely delightful experience in lovely surroundings. serviced by Welcoming and friendly staff - thank you.

I recently came for a meal with my husband and although the food was faultless , surroundings were beautiful and attention to detail was excellent. It was unfortunate I learned that a credited member of staff no longer works with you. I never managed to catch her name but it was a young dark haired girl, very pretty and mildly tanned and extremely friendly. As I never had a chance to see her again I would just like to bring it to your attention how lovely the service she gave was, along with a tall slim lady.i would appreciate it if this was meantioned to her. Would definately dine here again as choice on the menu was excellent, beautiful atmosphere and service to perfection. Thanks to all the staff and compliments to the chef.

We stayed at the hotel for our anniversary for two nights. And we weren't disappointed at all.
We upgraded our room to the manor house and it was lovely. Our bed was amazing!! you just sunk into it.
We had afternoon tea when we arrived in the fire room. Had a lovely evening meal as well.
And breakfast had various choices. I had Eggs Benedict, and my husband had full English. Yummy!
We were offered extras as they came round with a plate sausages , black pudding , toast, etc.
The waiter who greeted you when you went in was lovely. Wish I had got his name as we felt he should be mentioned ( shortish man with dark hair). The only thing I would said was a very tall foreign lady who was a waitress could be very sharp with you. On a few occasions we felt she wasn't as friendly as all the other staff. And was not chatty at all. The receptionist were very helpful and informative. Lovely smiley faces.
On the second evening we went to an authentic Italian , that was about 5 min from hotel opposite side. Amazing, amazing traditional Italian food.
We would definitely stay here again and hopefully the weather will be nicer to walk around the lovely grounds. You won't be disappointed , as I'm so picky and it checked all the right boxes!

Room Tip: Definitely get a room in manor house as standard room in separate building weren't as nice.
