Stayed early January, as a little wind down treat, after the hustle and bustle of Christmas. We spent the morning getting lost in Gisburn forest, (an experience which made us fully appreciate the leisure facilities in the afternoon). After our swim, we retired to the lounge where we experienced a pleasant afternoon tea, Served in front of the open fire which was very welcoming on a cold windy day. Although not full, the hotel had plenty of guests to create a warm friendly atmosphere.

Pre dinner drinks in the bar before being shown to our table. Not much to say about the evening meal except the service and food was absolutely superb; moreover the recommend wine was quite divine and complemented the evening perfectly. The breakfast menu is quite extensive, with the usual ‘full English’ being supplemented (as seems to be the norm now) by a vast array of vegetarian and European concoctions.

Our room was in the lodge, it had a massive bed and lovely panoramic views over the 22 acre garden. We kept an eye out for the deer but did not see them.

Stirk house was just what the doctor order and we definitely will return. Although to take advantage of Stirk house relaxed atmosphere. next time it will be for a couple of days. The complimentary biscuits on departure was another plus. Absolutely delightful experience in lovely surroundings. serviced by Welcoming and friendly staff - thank you.

I recently came for a meal with my husband and although the food was faultless , surroundings were beautiful and attention to detail was excellent. It was unfortunate I learned that a credited member of staff no longer works with you. I never managed to catch her name but it was a young dark haired girl, very pretty and mildly tanned and extremely friendly. As I never had a chance to see her again I would just like to bring it to your attention how lovely the service she gave was, along with a tall slim lady.i would appreciate it if this was meantioned to her. Would definately dine here again as choice on the menu was excellent, beautiful atmosphere and service to perfection. Thanks to all the staff and compliments to the chef.

We stayed at the hotel for our anniversary for two nights. And we weren't disappointed at all.
We upgraded our room to the manor house and it was lovely. Our bed was amazing!! you just sunk into it.
We had afternoon tea when we arrived in the fire room. Had a lovely evening meal as well.
And breakfast had various choices. I had Eggs Benedict, and my husband had full English. Yummy!
We were offered extras as they came round with a plate sausages , black pudding , toast, etc.
The waiter who greeted you when you went in was lovely. Wish I had got his name as we felt he should be mentioned ( shortish man with dark hair). The only thing I would said was a very tall foreign lady who was a waitress could be very sharp with you. On a few occasions we felt she wasn't as friendly as all the other staff. And was not chatty at all. The receptionist were very helpful and informative. Lovely smiley faces.
On the second evening we went to an authentic Italian , that was about 5 min from hotel opposite side. Amazing, amazing traditional Italian food.
We would definitely stay here again and hopefully the weather will be nicer to walk around the lovely grounds. You won't be disappointed , as I'm so picky and it checked all the right boxes!

Room Tip: Definitely get a room in manor house as standard room in separate building weren't as nice.

We arrived for our 2 night stay after a heavy snowfall which really increased its wow factor. All the staff were locals who couldnt do enough for us. We were shown personally to our room which was a nice touch. We ate in both nights and the food was freshly cooked, nicely presented and very nice.

We booked a double room on the last minute for my birthday. We had a lovely stay, our room was clean and comfortable, the lounge and the huge open fire is so relaxing. Our evening meal was delicious and all the staff at the hotel were very friendly and professional. Breakfast was amazing, so nice not to have the usual buffet style. The customer service at this hotel is far better than any we have stayed in either in this country or abroad which is truly commendable. we will definately return.

Managed to grab one night here for a post Christmas Chill Out. We booked the last room which was in the Lodge. The rooms in The Lodge have everything you need. They are large clean and quiet with great views but do not have the Wow Factor. The Health Club appears to have recent improvement but does need some maintenance with mildew removal from pool edge and ceilings. Shame as everything was warm. It wasn't until we arrived in the Bar Area that we realised why this hotel has fab reviews. It is beautiful. Large real fire and perfect for relaxing, Canapés served and the Menu really does have the Wow Factor. We found the service first class and the food was 5 star. The finishing touch of dessert wine and Port was ultimate bliss. Breakfast was top quality and again a varied menu. Both my husband and I regretted that it was a " flying " visit. We didn't allow time to try the nature walks and use the " hide " with refreshments provided. We are planning a 2nd visit in a couple of weeks and I will be booking a Manor Room and sitting in front of that awesome fire.

We booked this for one night at end of short break in Southport. Our first impressions were very high and we were not dissapointed. Friendly check in with escort to our room in the hotel part. Decided within a matter of seconds to book a second night as this would be perfect escape from work etc. Dined both nights and found food to be fresh well presented and full of flavour. Never expected breakfast to be of such a high standard with range of locally sourced products available with no supplements. Leisure club was one of the main factors in booking and we really enjoyed this on both days. To relax in front of a log fire after breakfast and dinner was a real bonus and one of the reasons we will return and recommend to friends. Thank you Stirk house for a fantastic time.
