We have stayed at various hotels around the Wyre and South Cumbria but our 'radar' completely missed this hotel - because it was..........too cheap!!!
We have dismissed hotels on the whole below £55 pn on previous poor experiences throughout the UK. However, we do read reviews and [thank goodness] the reviews looked 'out-of-sync' with the price. We decided to give it a try on that basis. Directions were not precise but it is basically 200m north of the Garstang/Cockerham Road on the A6. Loads of parking space and a nice big inviting reception area. A warm greeting was followed by a large basic but very clean room with a super new bathroom. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided and the room service charge is ultra reasonable! We had decided on bed, breakfast and evening meal for £79 for 2 and went through to the very relaxed and welcoming 'pub' area at 6.30pm.
There were plenty of cosy tables and a lovely atmosphere with friendly faces and a nice amount of ambient conversation - delightful place to enjoy a meal. And what enjoyment! A smoked haddock tart that was exquisite followed by a superb 'not so Chicken Kiev' with veg and new potatoes for me and 'the best lamb shank for size and quality that I've ever had' for my wife plus a bespoke Eton Mess that was hand-ceafted from meringue, cream and interred strawberries!! mmmm! What a brilliant way to spend an hour or two with a couple of drinks from the nice range of ales - Moorhouses bitter, very pleasant indeed. The bar and waiting staff were super and nothing was too much trouble. A super night's sleep in very quiet, sound-insulated room completed the day. Breakfast was taken in the spacious and well daylit residents area followed by coffee in the comfortable and open plan lounge.
Th equality and service provided by Nicola and her crew punches well above this price hence I am hesitant to recommend it lest she increases the price. But the true facts are that this is seriously too good a value to miss. I would happily have paid £45-50 for the quality of the evening food alone! All IMHO but we will certainly stay again.
The charming village of Garstang is only a short walk away and very easy to absorb time in its lovely surroundings. Absolutely first class stay.
