“Nice hotel with a few niggles”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

My husband stayed here as part of my sisters wedding reception in September 2013. Lovely setting, lovely friendly staff, they couldn't do enough for us (as guests) and the room was comfortable and spacious. Just one thing we did notice that when dropping something near the bed, we lifted up the sheets and found, 5p, a pen top and some make up left by god knows how many previous tenants so that was a little disappointing. The food and effort they made on the Friday and Saturday that we stayed was impeccable, all the food we had was delicious, we would stay here again despite what we found in our room.

Room Tip: we had a double room on the ground floor, fabulous views of the golf course and gardens and the blac...

Thank you for your review and your kind words complimenting our staff, food and quality of the hotel rooms. I sincerely apologise for the below standard cleaning of your room and extremely grateful that your review highlighted the positives of your stay with us and not on this negative which you kindly noted as a niggle.
I hope you will visit us again.
Kind regards

Many thanks for making our 3 night golf break a very comfortable experience. We arrived mid Tuesday afternoon and were checked into our very comfortable rooms by Rachel one of the friendly hotel reception staff. A set menu was on hand to choose from which was a very good idea. The food was very good and well presented and although none of the desserts on offer had custard as an accompianment it was arranged by the restaurant staff for some of our party to have this instead which was a nice personal touch. We had very good weather and it was nice to sit outside with our drinks, however on the negative side I don't think the greens team have a grass cuttings remover machine as there was an accumulation of dried grass around the tables area that had blown off the course, which lessened the experience. Another negative was that other than having a drink in the bar, watching TV was the only other option, whereas a games room for residents may be something to look at to keep guests on site. Overall we enjoyed our stay, excellent value for money and the golf course was in good condition. Thank you again. Alan Blackshaw Walmersley Seniors Golf Society organiser

Stayed for one night on business 20/8.
The hotel is in a great location close to the Preston area and the M6, with a lovely golf course. My room was a generous size and clean, but was very warm with no air con, however it does have an iron and board plus the normal tea/coffee facilities.
It also had the smallest bath towels I've ever sen.
What really lets the hotel down is the food. The menu appeared to be basic but OK, however when the food arrived the portions were tiny versus the price charged (£18-£20 for a steak with about 7 chips a mushroom and a tomato). The desserts were also less than impressive(ice cold pie with warm custard). My colleageue and myself both left still feeling hungry.
I must say though that the breakfast was very good indeed.
Its a great shame as with more attention to detail this would be a very good place to stay.

A low score is always disappointing especially as the reviewer had many positives to say about our hotel. We are sorry the evening meal didn't meat expectations but will highlight that the contents of this dish (except the amount of steak cut chips) are on the menu and it was explained that the Apple and Caramel Crunch Pie is served cold with an egg flip sauce, the custard was served with this dish at the request of the reviewer. We monitor our prices closely and using other venues who buy good quality meat, as we do, as a guide we believe our prices offer good value for money, especially as our dish comes with a choice of sauces and steak cut chips included, most charge extra for this. I hope the reviewer will accept my invitation to return in the hope that we can exceed expectations next time.

Stayed here for two nights on the way to Glasgow, and to visit a relation living nearby. Reception and all services friendly. Room well appointed, but oh so warm all the time (and the temperatures outside were 17/18 degree-ish), and when it rained could only open the window slightly. Bathroom fine. Restaurant evening meal and bar snacks reasonable quality. Dining room pleasantly set out. Beautiful garden in front of our room. Golf course very 'on the level' with wide fairways - would not challenge a low handicapper, but we enjoyed it.
On the bill as we left, we had been charged the full rate rather than the 'deal' rate agreed on booking, but this was put right immediately it was queried. Overall - recommended.

Thank you for making us your first review on TripAdvisor. We have had some muggy weather lately and it can be difficult to get air into the room when there is no breeze, that said all our windows do open fully and appears it was only the rain on the day that prevented you from doing this.
Our golf course does have wide fairways and forgiving rough which allows for the high handicapper to have enjoyable round. The low handicapper encounters different challenges with awkwardly placed bunkers and other natural hazards which ensure that very few beat par.
Sorry about the problem with the rate booked, I will speak with the reception team to see if anything can be learned from this.

Thanks again for the review and the recommendation.

Kind regards

Chris

Stayed for one night as we were going to a nearby wedding. Nice location. Room was spacious and clean and well equipped and 'did what it said on the can' without doing anymore. The hotel is a little plain in terms of the decor. Had a bar snack which was fine and was quite good value for money.

Thank you for reviewing our hotel and scoring us so highly on Location, Sleep quality, Cleanliness and Service. As a wedding venue ourselves we do try and keep our decor a little neutral so as not to overpower the colour schemes of our weddings and understand that to the residential guest this can appear a little plain. We will look at ways of better accommodating both tastes in our upcoming renovations.

Thanks again for the review

Kind regards

Stayed here for one night in early August. Check-in was quick and friendly. Room was a good size and looked out over some beautifully kept gardens and the driving range. Room had everything you need, including TV and tea and coffee making facilities. It was quite warm when we stayed and the rooms don't have air con but we slept with the window open and there was no noise.

Had a drink in the bar and dinner in the restaurant. The bar is fine, nothing special and as the guys behind the bar also do the restaurant (and seemingly other things too) you can have to wait a little for service. Dinner in the restaurant was nice enough, again service a little patchy but on the whole fine. Nice breakfast with choice of continental and cooked. Very helpful reception staff helped with a query over a taxi booking without prompting.

All in all a nice little hotel on the edge of Garstang and would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Go upstairs then you can have a window open if you need to without security worries
