“LOVELY HOTEL”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2012

We stayed here last weekend and thought it looked a bit shabby from the outside but it picked up when we got inside. We had booked for one night and had a room at the back of the hotel which was OK and very clean, on deciding to stay another night we were upgraded to a refurbished suite with a seaview which was different class. Massive with 3 x windows and very smart bathroom. Bedlinen and towels in both rooms were fresh and white. There was a live band on Saturday and Sunday night in the bar and a jazz band on Sunday lunchtime and the food was very good in the bar and the restaurant. I love the position of the hotel and enjoyed walking on the seafront in the sunshine, We went to Blackpool on the new trams (free seniors bus pass) but didn't stay long as we preferred Fleetwood and also Cleveleys with it's old fashioned charm. There is a Wetherspoons in Fleetwood with a beer garden which is OK but the bar prices were very reasonable in the hotel so we preferred it there. Large free car park with no trouble getting a space even on a bank holiday weekend. This is a hotel which is a work in progress and it's trying very hard to bring itself up to date and the staff are very hardworking, extremely pleasant and helpful although there was some confusion about breakfast times on Monday morning and as I had gone shopping to Cleveleys I only just made it as it finished at 10.00am and not 11.00am as we had been informed, but this was minor and overall we really enjoyed our weekend

Room Tip: Request a seaview when booking it makes all the difference

A fabulous building from the era of 'Grand Hotels'. Room was of adequate size which was clean and plainly decorated. Free WiFi. Breakfast excellent value.

The welcome was a little lacking. I was given no information about where the bar was, want food was on offer, when breakfast was, where were the lifts/stairs to get to my room.

The heating is incredibly efficient, even when you turn the radiator off you are still warm.

Get used to running the cold tap first and then clean your teeth otherwise you may well be cleaning your teeth with hot water! There is such a significant heat transfer from the hot and cold pipes that once you have the shower going you can switch off the hot tap and shower with super heated cold water!

All these points aside, if you accept it for what it is, a Grand Hotel with a grand past that must be a nightmare to upkeep, accept that some of the main areas have seen better days, prompt the staff to 'cross-sell' the facilities available and work with it. For business 1 night is probably enough.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the top floor, the floorboards creak like mad and if you underneath one you may...

I've stayed twice at the North Euston. It dates from about 1840 and has been a railway hotel and accommodation for military officers amongst other things during its long past. It is a really wonderful looking building and right on the Esplanade. There is a grand staircase and the function rooms are sensibly proportioned.

I am informed it is owned by a local family and they are investing to bring it back up to "standard". There was work notified regarding the fitting of a larger lift and there were many innovative ideas advertised to attract clients from mystery weekends, through wedding facilities to jazz nights.

I arrived quite late but was warmly welcomed and directed to my room. It was very warm even for me and overlooked the car park. The "en-suite" bathroom has been created out of a corner of the original room and it was a bit of an effort to negotiate to reach the toilet which was behind the door. There were toiletries and good bath and hand towels. The shower was over the bath and had a reasonable spray power.

There were tea and coffee facilities and a trouser press and hair dryer. There was even a reasonable selection of programmes including radio on the in-room tv.

The room was very dated and, while clean, needed much modernisation. The plaster was ageing and furniture and fittings showed their age. Lighting was plentiful but not really very good. The bed was not uncomfortable and 4 pillows were available but it wasn't a fantastic night's sleep. My sleep was fore-shortened by the arrival of the refuse truck at 0545 followed shortly after by scavenging seagulls!

The breakfast was cooked to order and there was a small buffet with cereal and juices as well as butter and jams and marmalade etc. Service was neither rapid nor excessively slow but I was not in a hurry either morning so it was not a concern. The fruit juice glasses were dishwasher marked although clean. I ordered sausage, bacon and mushroom and received 2 slices of bacon, a sausage and 2 small field mushrooms - exactly what I had ordered but I did think I might have been given 2 sausages. Toast was served but one needed to go to the buffet to get the accompanying butter etc.

We had a business gathering that evening and the food was pleasant rather than exceptional. The bar was extremely inexpensive - 2 x gin and tonic for £5.50 must be good value. The clientele was an eclectic mix of business people and families it seemed. The range of drinks was a little limited; an enquiry about sherry led to the report that there was some Bristol Cream while a request for a malt whisky could not be met at all - but the bar was very good value!

Facilities are limited. There were no leisure facilities as such and only limited opportunities in terms of areas in which to relax apart from the more formal rooms. There was an offer of a room from £10 per night as long as there was a spend of £65 on Dinner in the Restaurant, effectively £75 for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.

This hotel needs investment and needs updating badly. It is pretty gloomy in the rather narrow corridors. The doors and keys are very old fashioned and the decor is from another era. I'm surprised that it seems to be fairly full on a regular basis as Blackpool's not far away. Perhaps it's the welcome, good value bar and location that make it so; on the other hand, perhaps the competition is not that great based on experience many years ago. If it was updated, invested in leisure facilities and double glazing, and managed to keep its competitive prices it would tempt me for a leisure trip - but don't hold me to it!

Room Tip: Avoid the rear rooms overlooking the car park. They may be bigger but deliveries and refuse collect...

we always stay at this hotel, it is warm and welcoming and often they have special rates on, it is being updated and looks very nice. The restaurant is excellent with quite a good choice of food, the waiters and waitresses work very hard and are polite, the bar is quite large and the snack menu is also quite extensive, all in all the best hotel in Fleetwood

Room Tip: i sometimes have been given a sea view, but have never asked for one so I suppose if you ask you wil...

We have used the North Euston for both business and pleasure stays, it is definitely the best hotel in Fleetwood. The rooms generally need updating now as there has been few changes in the accommodation in years. Staff are polite and attentive, which is what you would hope. The best feature by far is the bar, this provides some great real ales that never appear "down south" so makes the stay for me extra special. Don't expect a modern hotel, but an established hotel that is trying to keep up with the times and almost succeeds.

We have been staying there for years off and on.Generally the hotel is much the same as when we first started stopping there some 25+ years ago.
The one gripe we have is that the windows to the rooms could do with double glazing and a little better fitting bedroom doors.
We know that a fair amount of money has already been spent and is going in the right direction.
The pub has always been a favorite with usually a selection of real ales which is good as we are Camra lifetime members.

Room Tip: Ideally at the opposite side of the tram tracks as they tend to wake you up earlyish
