“A hidden jewel for dining”
Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

I am finding it difficult to find fault with our dining experience for the table of 9 when we dined here.
The service certainly measured up to the high standard of food. The staff were professional & attentive without being pushy.
Every single person at our table not only admired the faultless presentation of the food but the balance of flavours was Devine.
I can't wait to go again, we have dined before on the Sunday lunch menu and that was spectacular.
If I was MADE to find fault - then perhaps gentle music in the lounge bar? But our conversation flowed and it wasn't missed.
I really hope this gorgeous setting, professional staff and amazing food get recognised with a STAR one day soon, because they deserve it.

Stayed here for my daughters wedding, the venue was excellent and the staff superb. They were very friendly and no request was to much for them, as we had a wedding party of adults and kids they were all treated equally and the guests that attended(some from the armed forces)all commented on the venue and the attention to detail ,I can only add that if anyone wants a venue for a special occasion they should give Astley Bank serious consideration.

Stayed here for a night on a work trip, hotel staff really polite, hotel lovely throughout downstairs but soon of the rooms could probably do with being updated, there was a tear in my duvet cover, very visible so I wonder how it was missed and the shower curtain was mouldy. That aside the bed and pillows were very comfortable and it was good to have tea making facilities in the room. And I would highly recommend eating in the restaurant, the cheesecake desert was one of the nicest deserts I've ever tasted.

stayed in June 2013 just for one night after a family occasion.

The hotel held the event and they were very good. The food and buffet were excellent and the new extension makes the hotel feel very upmarket.

The room was a large double and very traditional (not really my taste). The ensuite was carpeted (yuk) and the bathroom suite was antique. The shower was ok but low on power.

Unfortunately didn't have a great nights sleep - the building is old and the floors creak and whenever anyone moves a muscle above, it's pretty loud and a bit tiresome after a while. Also, the pillows were very low quality and rock hard... woke up with a headache and a sore neck.

So, a bit of a mixed review, but the hotel gets a better than average rating because of the staff and the food. Oh and by the way, the breakfast was excellent.

As you are enjoying your drink, the menus are left with you and the staff seem to be able to sense when you are ready to order rather than be constantly hovering with their pad only to be told that you are not quite ready to order each time that they ask as happens in too many restaurants. There is a varied selection of starters and main courses with the scallops with black pudding and the spring lamb being excellent. The food is presented beautifully and tastes as good as it looks. The sticky toffee pudding served with both ice cream and custard was a great way to finish. Afterwards, retire to the lounge to take tea and coffee with the most fantastic white on dark chocolate fancies and relax as if you are in your own home with no pressure felt to leave. Fabulous experience and one to repeat.
