We visited Astley Bank last night for dinner - not a specail occasion just a change for Saturday Evening. As per usual the hotel is professional and organised even with a party or 75 in the main dinning room! The menu is imaginative and tasty and a good selection I started with prawns, shrimps and king prawns huge but great. Then followed by rack of lamb perfection. A great success.

Stayed 2 weeks on business. Internet didn't work in my room. They shut the heat off for a few hours at night and it was too cold for me (this was January). The staff are wonderful, the food is amazing, especially their soups. I was on the 3rd floor and had a beautiful view from my window. There is no elevator so you have to be able to walk up and down stairs - but I do recommend the top floor. It's a bit noisy as you hear every door on your floor open and shut. Well worth a short stay

Astley Bank is located towards the south of Darwen, but could be a hundred miles away. Turning off the main road, guest enter another world, best summed up by historic, well maintained, recently enhanced facilities and a grand setting. I have stayed here many times, mainly on business, but also for pleasure. The Food is very good, the service is also good and the rooms are excellent, if you pay for an upgrade. Standard rooms are ok. The Directior/ Manager is often on hand and is committed to good service and standards.
I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. The one thing I would advise, is to check before you book whether or not a business group are booked in for a conference, especially if you want a quiet evening meal. The hotel is fine for groups on business, but the facilities are best utilised by no more than 30-35 delegates, otherwise it is rather crowded. Would make a nice Wedding venue also, with good photo locations.

Room Tip: Pay for an upgrade and try to book in the original old building.

This is a lovely hotel in an elevated position in Darwen, with a really interesting history. The restaurant serves fantastic food at a reasonable price. Some of the rooms are a bit dated so ask for the newly renovated rooms. All in all a great find.

Very impressed with our overnight stay. The staff on reception were very pleasant and the entrance to the hotel was warm and welcoming. The bedroom was spotless, tastefully decorated with a nicely tiled bathroom. Had until 10am to go for breakfast, which again was quality, help yourself to cereals and fruit juice and then choose from a menu which was then waitress service.
Would recommend to others and would like to stay again. Well done Astley Bank.

Have frequented this restaurant many times over the past 5 years and it continues to impress. The staff are always welcoming and friendly . Whether you visit for a special occasion or just for Sunday lunch you are always made welcome like a friend ,especially when the staff remember you . The hotel has been recently refitted and improved to allow more diners and more room for all. The changes are an improvement as it could be a bit tight for space before , but no more. The menu changes on a monthly basis and there is always a good selection of local Lancashire food as well as traditional favourites. The set menu is good value for the 3 courses and as a bit of a foodie I always leave feeling content. The drinks prices are reasonable as well and the attentive staff never leave you wanting for a drink. Just waiting for a weekend off before my family and me return for some more excellent food and service.

Room Tip: Haven't stayed at the hotel , only visited for the food

Myself & three friends went for Sunday lunch a few weekends ago and it was fantastic. The service was impeccable & the food was lovely! At £21.50 for 3 courses, coffee and truffles we were really impressed. Two of us had Haggis, Neeps & Tatties to start with a whiskey sauce & onion rings. Presentation was gorgeous, the potato was so fluffy & the onion rings were really crispy and a lovely touch to a traditional dish. Sea bass was brilliant & the cheese board had a great selection of local cheeses! Would reccomend any day. Fab value. Fab food. Fab atmosphere. Amazing service!!
