We live in Clitheroe, have eaten at Maxwell's occasionally in the past, & previously had been happy with both the food & the service.

When we had visitors on a Sunday recently we decided to go there for an early supper. On arrival the place was pretty full & we were warned that the kitchen was very busy (a euphemism for understaffed, I assume) & that we might have quite a long wait.

The menu was a big disappointment compared to previous visits, with a lot less choice than before, although one of the party required a gluten-free meal & several of those are available, which is good.

In fact we didn't have to wait as long as we'd feared; but the 'gluten-free' meal that arrived wasn't what had been ordered, despite the fact that the waiter had a little electronic thing to do it on. (He'd heard 'goat's cheese' & clicked on a salad - with no gluten in it! - & not the tagliatelle which had been specifically requested to be gluten-free.) That member of the party had to wait an extra 15 minutes before what had actually been ordered arrived.

There was a cursory apology, but that really wasn't good enough, & there was no offer of anything to make up for either the error or the delay.

We won't be returning.

Four of us have been to Maxwell's a couple of times. We usually have a look at the shops in Clitheroe and then and onto Maxwell's for lunch.

It's usually busy on Fridays and you can wait a while for your order. As we are quite happy to have a drink and chat while we wait this doesn't bother us!! Good choice of food. I love the steak melt. My friends went for the salads and sharing platters. The food is well above average. The place has a nice atmosphere and the staff are pleasant.
We are all thinking of going for an evening meal. The menu looks good!! Look forward to that

Myself and a few friends went for an evening meal last Sunday. We all had variations on Burgers, which were generously and imaginatively topped with a variety of lovely foods stuffs and a good size as well. The bacon fries which accompanied my 'Ham' Burger (pulled ham coated in breadcrumbs - absolutely delicious)) were to die for, covered as they were in Baconaise and crushed Frazzles! Great service. they were very busy as it was a sunny day and the roof terrace was full. Wasn't the quickest, but always with a smile. Will definitely be going again.

Excellent service and good food and drinks. We go a number of times a year. The staff are usually the same. They don't swap and change.
