We live in Clitheroe, have eaten at Maxwell's occasionally in the past, & previously had been happy with both the food & the service.
When we had visitors on a Sunday recently we decided to go there for an early supper. On arrival the place was pretty full & we were warned that the kitchen was very busy (a euphemism for understaffed, I assume) & that we might have quite a long wait.
The menu was a big disappointment compared to previous visits, with a lot less choice than before, although one of the party required a gluten-free meal & several of those are available, which is good.
In fact we didn't have to wait as long as we'd feared; but the 'gluten-free' meal that arrived wasn't what had been ordered, despite the fact that the waiter had a little electronic thing to do it on. (He'd heard 'goat's cheese' & clicked on a salad - with no gluten in it! - & not the tagliatelle which had been specifically requested to be gluten-free.) That member of the party had to wait an extra 15 minutes before what had actually been ordered arrived.
There was a cursory apology, but that really wasn't good enough, & there was no offer of anything to make up for either the error or the delay.
We won't be returning.
