“Pleasant, traditional English pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

Located in an area popular with walkers, this very traditional pub is popular with locals and visitors. A good selection of exceptionally well kept beers and lagers and freshly prepared meals and snacks make it well worth a visit. some people have complained about slow service, I have never found this to be so, but if food is freshly prepared to order, one must obviously expect to wait a little longer.

Booked a table for 6 people for 8:30 on saturday 3/11/2012 and was worried to see only I tablother couple eating although some people weer at the bar Waited 40 mions for starters and they forgot one which had to be prepared so we had to await longer for our main course. The main course steaks were overcooked and when we asked for sweets where told that the chef had gone so we could not have any. Would never ever recommend this shambles of a place

We had book a meal here for two for 7pm - the order was taken at 7pm, though it was just before 8pm before our food actually arrived at our table. This would perhaps be understandable if they were really busy, but no, there were only a few people dining, and to be truthful I think we were forgotten about, since others ordering similar meals, who arrived after us, were served before us, and we had a 'sorry for the wait' from the only person serving the food, who was also serving behind the bar as well (she was actually quite polite and friendly). Its a shame really as their menu board did look interesting and appetising - we were even considering returning some time to try out some of their speciality pies. In fact we were also even considering ordering a dessert this evening, but at their speed of service, we thought it best not to. I actually had to ask as to where our food was when it was getting to the 50 minutes mark, and we were told they were just waiting for the chips (course they were!). For the food itself, we ordered burger & chips - good quality meat burger with a bit of lettuce (no tomato) and a bit of tomato sauce plus fish & chips with good quality fresh fish, lightly battered, though the batter was a bit greasy (would have benefited from a bit of draining to help crisp it up), the chips were fine, like 'chippy chips', nice n crispy.

The food at this pub is a total disgrace .How they can serve both overdone and raw chips on the
same plate is beyond me. The fish was grey and looked as if it had been badly defrosted. The place is dark and dingy and not very clean. Avoid at all costs.

id at all costs.

A great place for a stop over. The room was comfortable, bright and clean and well provisioned. The meal in the evening was spoiled by very, very slow service but when it came it was excellent for taste and value. The dining room/ bar has lots of authentic charm. Breakfast in the morning was good. The Inn is in a sunny, open position with tables for eating al fresco.

Used it as a stop over for a wedding reception in nearby Blackrod, February 2010. Booked 4 rooms, 2 singles and 2 doubles. For the price £50/35 doubles/single you cannot expect to much but, ironed bed sheets, mould free showers, teles that worked (or do not bother providing) , towels that had a bit of conditioner and were not crusty hard and a quick hover/duster of the rooms would have made it a bit more pleasant. All rooms need a lick of paint and a bit of TLC. Having said that, breakfast was the saving grace and for a one night stop it was OK but if you are the picky type don’t bother with it.
