Booked here on the last minute due to the poor weather and snow fully expecting them to be full however they managed to fit us in despite this being a smallish restaurant internally (basically a knocked through pub conversion)

Appearance externally somewhat detracts from the first appearances although the food and service make up for this, good parking to the rear, to be honest though and in their defence yo are pretty limited in many ways as to what you can do with an ex pub.

Decoration internally a bit bland for my tastes and is quite small although this makes for a more intimate dining experience although this could easily be spoiled by loud or exuberant diners - and to be fair despite being small it didn't feel crushed or too small.

Very good menu typical of many larger and more expensive restaurants, we had the Friday 3 course deal for £19 which was excellent value and both Mrs D and enjoyed all the courses. Service was excellent and timely and the waitress very helpful. Drinks typically priced.

A good place to take your partner to for a quality intimate meal.

We visited the Thyme & Plaice last Friday night ( 18th January ). The food was fine and lived up to the expectations from previous reviews . The staff initially were very pleasant and helpful
However our evening was completely spoiled by another group of diners. The restaurant is really quite small and in general diners have to be very respectful of other fellow diners in that kind of environment
A group of 5 adults ,3 men & 2 women ( all looked to be of pensionable age ) arrived soon after us and continued to be loud ,boorish and just plain disrespectful of everyone else for the majority of time that we were there.
We complained several times to the 'waiting on' staff as we could barely here ourselves speak at times. They seemed to suggest it was nothing to do with them and they could not do anything about it
Similarly the manager of the restaurant seemed to do absolutely nothing to ameliorate the situation and when asked about it as we were leaving was nothing short of rude and confrontational even suggesting that the group in question were only having a good time and that we should look for somewhere quieter next time ! There were no apologies , no contrition and certainly no remorse.
The incident raises the whole question in restaurants about how to deal with that kind of situation when the management seem unable to or won't/can't deal with it.
Apparently young people can be arrested for making too much noise on the streets ,the 5 diners in question should have known better. If they had shown respect for others the incident would never have happened.

We had a meal at 7.30 on a saturday night - the meal was first class the food was hot, tasty and very well presented. The service was excellant but not intrusive. I had steak and my husband had lamb for main course - cooked perfectly, with pleanty of vegetables. Our deserts were just as good. Coffee was served in a caffitiere so we had 2 cups each. The restaurant is very clean and modern - there is nice back ground music but it is not too loud so we could chat over our meal - some restaurants have load music and the noise levels are overpowering. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will be going back.

I havea
known of this restaurant for years and driven past countless times but it was only when I stumbled the reports on Trip Advisor recenlty that I became interested. Went last night and was very impressed - decor a little bland but that is being a little too critical and only because of my taste. The service and food were veruy good indeed and probably the best lamb shanks we have had for years - they were large and perfectly cooked with good vegatables. Starter and dessert were substantial and the service was extremely attentative without being over so. I am so pleased that we went and will certainly be on our list for a return visit before too long.

Visited for the first time and warmly greeted by staff. Ordered from the 'Friday' special menu, which is good value for money. Looked at the a la carte and the specials board too. Steak not the best I have had, but partner enjoyed the sea bass. Drinks reasonably priced with very tasty wines by the glass. Ambience is not to my taste, as it appears dim and a little bit drab.
