just been to Fence Gate for the first time, and can honestly say it was probably the best dining experience I've had. The food was superb, the staff very professional and polite and the drinks were reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend to anyone.

Six of us ate here for Fathers Day, the food was amazing! The best Sunday Lunch I have had in a restaurant in a long time. Service was excellent and all the staff are very professional and friendly. This is definitely in my top 10 of Lancashire restaurants and cant wait to go back.

Well they didn't fail to dissapoint again - in their consistently poor service, over priced mediocre food. Not my choice of place at all. 20ins at table waiting for drinks order, another 20 mins to take food order. Place wasn't over busy and those already seated obviously been there a while..ordered prawn&crayfish salad with little gem lettuce, guacamole and tomato concasse - literally a pile of prawns, pile of Cray fish, no lettuce but baby leaf and no tomato - it was thousand island dressing. Silly me. Mains had hake with buttery mash, caper butter dressing. Plate came swimming in butter - literally. Scoop of mash, piece of fish with capers, couple of mangetout, green beans, 1 piece of sprouting broccoli £13.95! Others had crispy duck that wasn't crispy and not on a par with a Chinese version and chicken snitzel- basically chicken Kiev without the Kiev, over fried matchstick chips, small pile of rocket with balsamic drizzle. Wanted more drinks. Asked waitress said she'd have to get some one & disappeared. Called someone else over after 10+ min wait. Who disappeared and didn't return. Eventually got.to order after near 20min wait. Crap service mediocre uninspiring food over rated over priced didn't go through choice and won't. Daylight robbery

very clean and elegantly decorated
wooden flooring, which ladies if you wear high heals be very careful.
comfortable seating but very crowded and little room between the tables
the service was okay, no rush to take your order
i had the hoi sin duck to start - very nice and judging by my friends plates theirs were too!
main course - i had the steak and ale pie £12.95 - very nice, although if you have a big appetite portions sizes are a little on the small side, compared to other places serving the same style of food.
i also found the food menu in general to be quite expensive -
if you order the steak there are no vegetables just 2 cherry toms and 1 mushroom!!!!
chips are homemade not frozen
didnt have a dessert so cannot comment
