Authentic Victorian technology conjures up images of what it must have been like to work the looms. A real sweatshop!
The cafe at the entrance is excellent value too.

“Great History of Lost Heritage.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

Well worth a visit. Gives a great insight to life in the cotton mills and preserves an important piece of history. The staff are friendly and informative and the experience is so different to our working lives today.

“Fascinating museum with live demonstrations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

A great guide who showed us the boiler room with a twin furnace Lancashire boiler from 1901, then took us on to the main steam engine with its giant flywheel. The engine produced almost 600 HP and powered hundreds of looms that can be seen working when the mill is steaming. Everything is well labeled and there is a pleasant little tea room area to relax for a while at the end.
The staff are friendly and know their material well. Looking around the area there are still terraces that would have housed the workers.
Enough to keep most people happy for a couple of hours, and there are also special occasions when music and folk dance takes place.
Local residents can enter free, but for others there is a small fee (£3 at time of review)

This small museum is fabulous and very interesting. It has appeared in several fims including the "King's Speech". All the staff are very informative and it is highly recommended.
