It's local, very interesting and a great place to take all the family especially children as it teaches them about mill life and the workings

“Boilermen are best”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

Visited today and we were impressed with the stoking of the boiler to produce the steam to drive the engine which drove all the looms in the massive weaving shed. Boiler man was very informative especially when telling us what his 2 spades were used for,

You feel the vibrations of the working looms amid the horrendous noise - how anyone could work in those conditions all their lives is incredible. Inhumane.

Thank you to the staff who were very keen for us to understand how the mill worked.

“It's what make Britian great”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

Visited this museum it's just fantastic from the minute I arrived everyone at this museum was just very helpful from the lady on the door, the weaver in the weaving shed, the boiler men in the boiler house, the lady who served up a wonderful meat pie, and last but not least the engineer and his marvellous steam engine they were all great. I'll be going back
The day I when was the 8th of November so it was very quiet next time will be in the summer I’ll let you know if it’s busier. If time is short and you would like to see the steam engine working get there about 1:50 they run it about 2o'clock I got there about 12:15 and just walk about chatted to everyone just great very informative Not to be missed!!!!!

“A "Not to be missed" experience”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

We visited Queen Street Mill with a party from a motor club, having previously been unaware of its existence. The mill is a real gem containing most of the machinery which was there when it ceased working - AND IT ALL STILL WORKS!

The staff are enthusiastic, well informed and give a friendly commentary during the tour, telling you about the people who worked there as much as the machinery and are willing to discuss the many aspects of the work if you show interest.

A working tandem-compound steam engine is connected to over 100 weaving looms by line shafts and belts and you will see, and hear, some of these working during your visit.

A snack bar serves savoury snacks and home made cakes.

This is a really wonderful place to visit; I cannot recommend it too highly.

Very interesting and good fun for the family. A good insight into the past on how people worked and lived. A nice coffee shop to end a good visit.
