What a nice surprise this place was, Check in a breeze first floor room which was lovely light, clean and airy, overlooked the sea with all the paraphernalia that you would need in a room so no quibbles here. Bar very welcoming and plenty of space to sit comfortably and enjoy the atmosphere, good stock and not pricey for a hotel. They even have a nice little conservatory\coffee bar at the back which is a nice touch. The bar food menu looked just as appealing as the a la carte menu so we ate in the bar and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, they were well cooked and presented. Breakfast is a bit short lived as it stops bang on 9:30 and I felt after the meal the previous evening a bit mean, all but tasty and it was a good selection. It would be difficult to fault the hotel really for the standard which it is set, would I go back, yes in a flash. I bet its great in the summer. Oh and the staff, worked hard and were always keen to help and friendly.

Room Tip: 1st floor sea view as you might get a balcony, People with walking difficulties let the hotel know when you book that you have a problem.

This was not our first stay at the Marine the last time was around two years ago what a difference, it was never a bad visit in the past but our visit last week was excellent and it started before we arrived, the reception arranged for Red Roses etc to be in our room on arrived as it was my partners birthday, they were first class our room was clean well stacked and a great view out over the river, Housekeeping was excellent during our stay and the breakfast was really good and the bar service was always prompt, the whole place had a very professional feel about it, keep up the good work

Room Tip: best view is out over the river

I have been generous in saying they are average. I suspect that most of their food is microwaved and it's very hot and miss re quality. On a few occasions we have eaten here it's been poor quality and service is extremely amateur.

I have stayed here a couple of time in the last year, each time it was pleasant, comfortable and quite. The rooms are of a good size, comfortable beds with decent pillows. Rooms at the rear of the hotels whilst they don't have the sea view do not have the noise of the road ad are extremely quiet. Sea view room also have so called balconies that are to be avoided due to the pigeon droppings all over. Given the choice I'd pay less money for a quieter room. The staff are friendly and efficient and the breakfast is full and hearty. I'd stay here again for the one or two nights I need with out hesitation.

Room Tip: pay less for a non-sea view room, they are quieter

Expectations were understandably low as this hotel is owned by Shepherds Neame. However, we decided to eat there so we knew what we were in for. And so it played out. 2 sirloin steaks, one medium and one medium rare were presented as one medium and one well done. The member of staff complained that, as per usual, there was no communication as to cutlery. The bar staff couldn't open the till as the manager had gone home with the emergency key. The watercress had expired some time ago and was barely recognisable. Such fun to be had if you dare eat here......
