For some reason, i was expecting this to be a pub that offered accommodation - but it wasnt. It is definitely a hotel - and a pretty good one at that!
We had booked a room with a sea view, and this was what we got. The room was nicely appointed, with a comfy double bed, nice bedding, a wardrobe, chest of drawers, desk, and bedside tables. The bathroom was a bit small, (shower over bath) but was well finished. My only disappointment would be that the windows for the sea view were quite small. The room was partly in the eaves of a "dormer" and so there wasnt much space for a window. Next time i will stay in one of the "Deluxe" rooms with a sea view as these have a full aspect onto the sea. Having said that though, the room was really comfy, nicely decorated and quiet.
Breakfast was a great selection of cereal, fresh fruit, and then various items cooked to order. There was the usual "Full English" but this was complemented by Eggs benedict, eggs florentine, poached haddock and kippers. I had the eggs benedict both days and they were perfect!!
The bar area is mainly used by residents - probably as the prices are that of a hotel and not a pub - but it still had a good atmosphere. It was very comfortable to be in at the end of a day.
We didnt eat there, but the food looked really good.
There is car parking at the front and rear, and street parking was easy too.
All the staff were very friendly, and willing to help.
The hotel is about a 10min walk into town, but its a nice walk along the sea front and past the harbour where there are opportunities to eat and drink.
A really good place to stay

Set on the front, well maintained building. downstairs very well layed out,Bar area spacious.Food and dining area very good. Bed room lacked two comfortable chairs (only one dining chair and a stool provided). Sea view ?? the window was only one meter square and far too small to warrant an extra charge.

Room Tip: ask for 1st floor

When we last called in to the Marine Hotel it was looking tired and failing. Just a few months later (Bank Holiday weekend) some friends had come to stay and so we popped over to see them at the hotel and what a fabulous job Shepherd Neame have done with this hotel. It looks bang up to date yet has retained its essential charm. The location is amazing overlooking the sea at Tankerton. The hotel had only been re-opened some 7 weeks and so there were the inevitable teething troubles that you get with a new team as they bed in but the signs are all really encouraging. For anyone wanting a good hotel in the area then the Marine Hotel is hard to beat. In fact many of the Shepherd Neame hotels are worth a stay - they make a more pleasing alternative to the usual boring chains.

We stayed at the Marine for one night on our way elsewhere and attracted by excellent reviews since the refurbishment.
Reception was welcoming, The friendly girl was bizzarely almost over-familiar, several staff were behind the counter chatting and doing, whatever....clearly enjoying their jobs.
Our room was large, very clean, beautifully decorated and good value for money. Our bar snack was promptly served and pleasant. The hotel seemed full, expecting a big wedding party the next day so the public rooms were full of increasingly noisy, almost raucous people. For me that is where the problem lay, the refurbishment is upmarket and attractively done, the clientele were generally not used to staying in hotels, all shared their coversations very loudly! We discovered that the shower was too powerfull for the awful curtains ( why not put up a screen?) and thus flooded the bathroom floor. We ate in the restaurant, the food was good but way overpriced, next day the breakfast was OK, but when we asked for marmalade we were told they had run out 'a few days earlier' so none to be had. In all we enjoyed our stay but with a bill for well over £200 we would not go out of our way to stay again next time we are on our way to the Tunnel.

The refurbished Marine Hotel has a lovey relaxing vibe. The room we had (a double with a sea view) was comfortable and beautifully decorated (the inside window ledges still needed painting but this did not detract from the experience!). The tea and coffee tray was well stocked, and a very kind housekeeper brought us some fresh milk in a flask.
The breakfast was good, though a little more fresh fruit would have been nice for those of us who do not eat the full English. We ate in the restaurant twice and the food was really delicious. Most of the staff were very helpful and truly delighted us. We appreciated the free wifi, though we thought we would be charged for it after one website said we would. This needs to be corrected because for some people this is a deal breaker. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: The sea view doubles vary, ask for a double bed or two singles pushed together, whichever you prefer

All clean and freshly decorated currently. Big comfortable room with wonderful sea view and balcony with table and chairs. (Not their fault about the terrible weather.) Obviously a lot of thought has gone into interior decor and comfort. Good breakfast menu, fresh fruit too. Lots of outdoor seating. Easy walk into Whitstable. My only criticism was the blaring racket (music?) in the bar/lounge. Lounges are supposed to be relaxing areas, and judging by the demographic when we were there, it would definitely be considered a racket by many of the (mature) guests.

Room Tip: It has to be a sea view. Otherwise you could be anywhere.

Great Staff at all times. Rooms were great and the food very good. Wi-fi was excellent and free!
Good location - about 15 minutes walk into the centre of Whitstable. Opposite the beach and great for walk to Herne Bay.

A outstanding expereince - would recommend this place.
