“Bit of a throwback”
Review of Savoy - CLOSED

This place is a bit of a throwback, being more of a pool and snooker hall with a bar than a conventional pub. It has great views, but the interior and pool tables are tired and could do with attention. Limited choice of beers, food not very appealing. Friendly enough though.

According to the local paper (and notices on a lamp post outside) there is a planning application to knock the place down and build flats and a wine bar.

Whilst the exterior is not pleasant on the eye and the pub/club/bar is upstairs I was pleasantly surprised with this. As per the title is a cross between a bar/pub/swanking working man's club really - there are 6 t.v. screens on which a variety of sport was being shown and 3 snooker tables on a slightly lower level from the bar area.
My lunch-time jacket potato was well presented, very tasty and well-cooked. The staff were polite and the view from the upper deck is far-reaching across the seas. Sadly it is located a bit far along one end of town for town views to be had, but being tucked away means that you are away from the crowds.
The menu is varied and the prices most acceptable.

Great pool and snooker hall. Good reasonable food menu and a hidden gem in my opinion. Table service by your snooker table and in the upstairs bars a fantastic relaxing vista over the whit sea. Return weekly.

Probably the best view in whitstable from a pub! My husband plays in the savoys pool team so we're there quite often. Everyone is so friendly there- he tells me the food is great! And the pool table and downstairs snooker tables are great too! Just an unspoilt, unpretentious little gem of a place!!
