There was a special offer on this summer that allowed us to have one main meal at full cost and a second at £2.50 which saved us £6.50. This restaurant had only been opened for 5 months and it was obvious that the staff had been well trained. The overall experience is a chain restaurant with no atmosphere and average food that is charged at a high rate. The music was too loud and the guts of the old warehouse had been ripped out to leave an a bland garish open-themed restaurant! Our waiter was excellent and very attentive. My pizza had an extra topping of tuna, but was very plain and was not worth £10.50. My wife had the Caesar salad but was very disappointed. The wine was very ordinary but was being charged at London prices - £5.90 for a 250 ml glass of Montepulciano. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Waiter, there's a hair in my pizza

We have been to the Pizza Express in Whitstable twice since opening recently, and apart from the staffs' annoying habit of calling all customers "guys", it was a pleasant if slightly noisy experience both times. Our most recent visit has however made us question the hygiene and the management of this restaurant.

Mid way through our pizzas my wife discovered a hair in her pizza. We called the waitress. She said she would get the manager. Despite sounding like the script to a Fawlty Towers episode, we'd like assure you that the following did actually occur.

The manager arrived at our table and giggled saying that she understood there was a hair in one of the pizzas. We confirmed this to be the case. She then asked what colour the hair was and whether it was long or short - seriously, she did!

We were astonished that her focus was on the provenance of the offending item, rather than on a) apologising and b) replacing the pizza.

The manager explained that the reason she was enquiring about the hair was so she could find out which chef it had emanated from. Somewhat revolted by the nature of this discussion, my wife cut it short and said she would just eat the remainder of her meal (carefully).

On paying the bill we spoke again to the manager, and what was evident was that she had no basic training or even just common sense she could fall back on in dealing with this type of situation. She just kept on saying that she needed to enquire about the hair to find where it had come from. When we explained that we did not need to be involved in her investigations she just didn't gt it.

It all left a very unpleasant taste in the mouth.

A new funky, friendly and vibrant place with young staff and a great atmosphere. The usual Pizza Express menu and great offers apply and the meals are cooked to order and good value. the car park is conveniently located just opposite the entrance (level access) and it is just off the main street.

Food was ok, cold when it got to us but ok. Prices match others in town. But with prezzo and zizzi well established in town, this place needs some dazzle. And it has none. The staff are abrupt and unknowledgable about the menu. The management seem lazy and in undriven. Do yourself a favour, stick to the other 2 well founded Italians in town. Until a new management team are in place here, I'd rather get my pizza from the kebabie!!!!

Had a quick meal here and the standard was as expected from this chain. Our waitress was first class - attentive and friendly. We did however see another waitress attempt to serve a bemused lone diner with two pizzas while the couple on the adjacent table looked on expectantly! Maybe the other reviewer was also served by her. The chain also seem to be broadening their menu - the goat's cheese and warm vegetable salad was very tasty.
