Stayed for a night in the pleasant & clean hotel continental, had a nice drink in bar but couldn't check in until 3pm so had a wander along the sea front to grab a bite to eat , returned after 3 to check in , room was very clean but quite small which isn't the end of the world as we could only get a small room due to late booking , but I have 1 major gripe and that is the beds are so uncomfortable I hardly got any sleep the top layor of mattress is so thin you can feel the metal springs through it , the 1 thing you can normally depend on in a hotel is a comfy bed not to wake up feeling like you've been sleeping on a park bench . hopefully management will read this and replace all beds with a decent standard befitted a hotel !

It is really surprising to hear that you found the bed uncomfortable as the hotel has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment including new beds and high quality matresses for all rooms.

Thank you for your feedback

Kind regards

Room was cozy and very comfortable. Breakfast was good and the Rib Eye Steak was perfect. Lovely spot to stay, hotel has been restored well, leaving lots of original features.
Love the tiles in the Bar and restaurant.

Room Tip: We booked through hotel website, ended up on 2nd floor, lots of stairs. Recommend ringing hotel direct before booking to check room position.

We stayed in the in the Penny Lodge behind the hotel. Although tucked away behind the main hotel it still had a lovely sea View. Breakfast was hosted at the main hotel and it was delicious. It included an amazing selection. The Staff at the reception and the kitchen/restaurant all seemed lovely and i couldn't fault the service it in any way . The dark wood panelling and 70's decor in the lodge was not at all to my taste but was quirky and the other guests seemed to love it, so maybe that's just me!
The lodge was very clean. My only complaint would be that the old shower/showerhead needs replacing as it was a very slow and drizzly. This is really my only minor complaint.
We found a wide selection of teas, some biscuits, milk and coffee in our little kitchen which were nice details.
I would highly recommend a stay.

Thank you for your recommendation. Penny Lodge does have a very retro feel to it which some people love but we appreciate it is not to everyone's taste.

It's good to hear you enjoyed your breakfast at the hotel and housekeeping staff have been made aware of the issue with the shower head.

Best wishes

Lovely setting, friendly reception and bar staff. Good amount of parking with one motorcycle parking spot which was perfect for us.

Our room was lovely, clean and comfortable with a partial sea view.

The bar stocks a good range of locally brewed drinks. We also ate in the restaurant which was tasty and plentiful if a little expensive.

However, breakfast was utter chaos, a lot of rooms came down last knockings and caught the staff out. Tables not cleared, nowhere to sit and simple things like teas and coffees taking ages or forgotten.

Also beware the mini bar! Check the prices clearly displayed on the front before diving in!!!

We stayed midweek so got a real bargain room rate with breakfast included. Taking everything into account, we would be back especially if we could get a similar rate!

Thank you for your feedback. We're pleased to hear you had a comfortable stay and enjoyed your evening meal in the restaurant. We apologise that you found the breakfast to be chaotic. There was a particular morning recently when breakfast was very busy due to a large wedding party who all came down to breakfast together (guests usually come down at staggered times). To address this we have extended breakfast to 10am on weekdays when the hotel is busy.

On the seafront near the harbour this is a great hotel. It has been recently refurbished. It has a seafront, harbour feel, with half-boarded walls painted in pastel colours, and a light, airy atmosphere with bleached-wood tables in the bar and restaurant. Local beers in the bar, and excellent local seafood in the restaurant, especially the oysters. The breakfast is the best I've had anywhere. And it's moderately priced for the quality on offer, especially outside of the peak months and on weekdays.
