“Hut 7”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

Stayed in hut 7 and had a great weekend in Whitstable. Great hut outside serving beer and oyster which my husband loved and added to the holiday vibe. The huts are so popular you need to book in advance which we did for our next visit tomorrow to hut 14, very excited. Only thing I would change or add is being able to have breakfast in the hut. We always take our bikes and the hotel lets us out them by the back door, last time it rained and the lovely staff moved the bikes into the storage area so the saddles did not get wet. This just shows the kindness of the staff and how thoughtful they are. Must mention the cleaners, great job each day. We have also stayed at the hotel and it is just as lovely. We always eat in the Whitstable oyster company restaurant and the food is excellent if a little expensive.

Room Tip: Book in advance.

hi
Great that you enjoyed staying at Hut 7 but I'm sure you will enjoy Hut 14 more. See comments on previous review about breakfast!

I stayed at the Fishermans Huts with my sister and brother in law in mid June when the weather was sadly not summery but very cold and breezy. Despite this we had a very pleasant stay being upgraded to the Anderson Shed when the door to our original booked hut could not be opened despite the time taken by Hotel Continental's charming cook to try and get us access. The huts all look charming whereas the Anderson Shed is more like a small cottage with 2 good size bedrooms and a bathroom and separate toilet downstairs and a well equipped kitchen with open plan dining and living room upstairs. All very modern and clean with car parking right outside.
We drove to the hotel the next morning for the breakfast which is included in the price but it would be good if you could have the choice of doing this or being given a breakfast hamper to prepare yourself in your hut as we would have preferred to do this.
We ate dinner of excellent fresh fish at the Whitstable Oyster Co restaurant which was a few minutes walk along the seafront from where we stayed. However the little cafe behind the sea wall near the huts prepares great snacks and drinks to have there or take back to your hut. Their oysters and fresh fish display are very tempting.
Dianne S.

Room Tip: The Anderson Shed is a great place to stay for 2 couples or families. The smaller huts would be bett...

Thanks for the feedback the lock has now been changed but glad you liked the Andersons shed. We are looking at the feasibility of Huts guests having a takeaway breakfast from the Forge cafe right next to the huts maybe just at the weekends.
see you again soon

Stayed with my wife last Wednesday night as a treat in Hut 5 and had an excellent time.
Simple but well appointed accomodation, in fact everything you could ask for.
Kitchen area to prepare Tea, or a meal and fridge for the obligatory bottle of bubbly !
Spotlessly clean and super powerful shower.
The best bit is that these Huts are just off the beach and a short walk to town or local restaurants.
Breakfast at The Hotel Continental was excellent and it was nice to have a walk to and from along the sea front.
We will be back.

Wowzer! £75 room-rate B&B midweek term-time.Definitely a bargain.Hut 1.Spacious bed.Good facilities.and the view from the window.....like a seascape.....Situated a hop from a sloping shingle beach down to the water's edge.PLUS.Beach hut close enough to bring gorgeous hot vanilla donuts or Rasberry wheat beer up to the hut.MINUS Beach hut close enough for lots of trippers to eat and drink noisily throughout the day and (if it's sunny) night.A small price to pay.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask about stair layout if elderly or with mobility issues.Avoid Hut 1 in good weather...

Hut 1 is still only 75 pounds sun-thurs if you want a quieter hut at the same price try hut 11-its just round the corner.

Loved every minute of this. We stayed in hut 2 which had an upstairs double and 2 downstairs singles for the kids. Separate bathroom both upstairs and downstairs. Right on the seafront on the edge of the beach great to have the windows open and hear the sea. Furnishings were fine, all pretty new, hut was very clean (and our cleaner was lovely). The stairs are steep but didn't pose a problem for us, but you may struggle if you have mobility problems. We also put the drawers across the top of the stairs, you may want to think about a stairgate if you have very small children. Breakfast was in the Hotel Continental which is about a 10-15 minute walk, we just drove though. There was also a beach bar / snack hut at the end of the hut area also owned by the hotel which was very good for a late afternoon beer. If you book for out of school holidays and not weekends then the cost is less than the local B&Bs, absolute bargain!

Owned by The Hotel Continental, you have to go to the hotel to check in which only took seconds as they were very well organised. The hotel was less than five minute’s drive away and you are given a map and good directions to get back to the huts. There is allocated parking outside the huts but it is quite a small space so depending on your parking abilities, and the abilities of the other guests it could be tight to get in your space!

We were not sure what to expect from the huts and had a lovely surprise. We didn’t make much use of it, but our hut had a good sized kitchen area with breakfast bar, microwave, fridge, sink, oven and well equipt cupboards. The bathroom was a good size but the ceilings are not that high. My boyfriend did have to duck his head when standing in the bath for a shower! There was a double bedroom downstairs and upstairs another double bedroom which also contained a seating area. Both bedrooms overlooked the beach. This hut also had a small veranda but it was too cold and windy for us to sit out there during our stay.

The hut itself was very clean and well thought out. There were curtains and shutters which added to the character. It was quite windy during our stay but it didn’t feel like we were in a shed! The heating worked well and was quite snug.

The huts are close to the town so we walked and found somewhere to eat in the evening. Breakfast is served in the main hotel which is less than a ten minute walk down the seafront (or a very short drive). The outside of the hotel does look like it is in need of a bit of paint but inside was up to date. We had a cup of tea or coffee brought to our individual tables, many of which over looked the beach. There was a very good selection for breakfast including cereals, fruit, yoghurt, cooked items, toast, numerous jams and toast toppings, three different fruit juices and extra tea and coffee. We were welcome to read a newspaper as well if we wished.

Each of the huts is slightly different I think and we loved ours. We would definitely like to go back, as would several friends since they have heard about our stay!

We stayed here for 1 night over the May bank holiday. Anderson shed was beautifully refurbished and decorated. We found the deco appropriate and in keeping with the coastal and 'oyster' colour.
The kitchen was fully furnished. We were a party of 2 families with our little ones - it felt quite spacious for all 4 adults and 2 children.

The next day we moved to separate huts as the Anderson shed was not available for a 2 night stay. A bit disappointing as we felt we lost time waiting for our huts to be cleaned. The very helpful receptionist had tried to get our huts cleaned first but we still had to check in at 3pm.
That said the huts we stayed in 4 and 8 were lovely and 'cute' on outlook. Clearly they have been refurbished as we could smell the paint in hut 8.

My most critic is the cleanliness that we found in the huts - which I feel it is letting it down a bit. The tea cups were not cleaned, had 2 plates with 2 folks and 1 knife. We were not expecting to cook in the huts but had hope for a clean and basic cutlery would be available. Anyway as the huts we were in did not have a kitchen sink we couldn't clean it the dirty cups.

To summarise Anderson Shed was the better accomodation, I would recommend a family to stay at this hut. Although as mention by other travellers the stairs are tricky to negotiate for the very young ones or if you have mobility concerns.

The views from the balcony do not disappoint even on a rainy day.

Room Tip: Anderson Shed is perfect spacious for a large family.
