“Great little cafe”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

Cafe 89 is a lovely little place in a lovely spot. Their coffees are really nice and they do some wonderful but simple things to eat. Bagels are highly recommended (chicken, bacon and tomato is my personal favourite), tuna panini is good too and their poached eggs are fantastic. The service is really friendly and very efficient and the food is very fresh. It's very good value for money too.

“Basic, but unhurried.”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

I think I like Tankerton because you can escape the hustle and bustle of Whitstable and no.89 embodies this. It is small, although the outside space helps with this and as you are so close to the kitchen, you can get the cooking smells, which is a bit off putting. However, I like what they do, simple snacks rather than meals, unpretentious and reasonably priced. Toasted sandwiches/paninis are OK, but not the best quality ingredients - my beef was a bit fatty, and the cheese seems to be slices rather than a quality cheddar. Coffee is very good, and good selection. Best of all probably the smoothies - different varieties, packed with vitamins and the cream tea too is very good. Young enthusisatic staff and if you go out of season, you can easily spend a couple of hours here without wanting to move on.

All in all, probably more a three and a half stars, but I'll give it the four as it is not trying to cash in on the DFLs.

“A good place to watch the world go by”

Nice site if a little cramped, try to get an outside seat (they offer blankets for the cooler weather) and watch the world pass by.
