We ate at the Old Neptune on a Monday lunchtime in November. The pub offers a wide selection of real ales, lagers and ciders and we were offered a taster of one of the unusual lagers before deciding whether to choose it.

The bar staff were friendly and welcoming and the pub itself looks very old and traditional with a nautical theme. The background music was varied and lively which helped create a nice atmosphere.

The lunch menu was fairly simple but varied. We opted for the Smoked Haddock Fishcakes served on a mixed salad & the homemade burger and chips.
Both meals were nicely presented, tasted good and the portions were quite generous.

It was lovely being able to eat and drink at a pub which is virtually on the beach. Nice and cosy on a very windy November lunchtime!

Stopped off at The Old Neptune with a friend today to get something to eat and a pint.
No table service outside and 'Special menu' possibly one of the worst ever experienced. The piece of lemon in my friends Breaded King Prawn salad was almost mouldy and looked like it had been sitting in the back of a fridge for as long as the Old Neptune has been standing in Whitstable. The chicken and mushroom pie with chips was equally disappointing being microwaved and soggy and the chips worse than McDonalds. Being from this country i've come to expect being stung for poor service and food but it's the foreigners visiting that I feel sorry for.
The really sad thing is it isn't difficult to provide quality food and good service but I won't be coming back and I suggest you avoid it unless you just want a drink and an excellent view.

It's very rare to find a pub on the beach in this country. Good atmosphere and you can eat for under £10 great pub

We visited this pub twice in the last month and have to say that this is one of the most enjoyable places to have lunch in Whitstable.

The pub is set by the beach at Whitstable and in late summer particularly provides a great way to have a pint and enjoy the view. But above all that their food is excellent - we both had cod cooked in Guinness batter, chips and mushy peas... unpretentious but very good value, very tasty and with excellent service.
The beer from the local Whitstable brewery is first-rate and all in all we would highly recommend this pub.

Went there for lunch today food is very overpriced ham salad sandwich £4.95 prawn £6,50, although sandwich was nice enough. Bar staff pleasant enough but sitting outside on the beach was not pleasant as we were surrounded by numerous dogs who were fouling the beach not the pubs fault but as the benches are positioned where the dogs mess is located perhaps it would be a good idea to clean it up so as not to put people off from wanting to eat there, drinks not brilliant could be a much nicer place if the dogs mess was cleared up and dogs were not allowed to foul on the beach {Canterbury council take note}
