We went to this restaurant on a Saturday night. Booked a table for 6. The staff were very helpful and attentative. I was suprised at the huge range of dishes on offer in the menu. We had a lovely meal and it was served warm and with little wait between each course. The waiter also provided (free of charge) some aubergine fritters. These were lovely.

... and that is what you get.

There is a tendency for Indian restaurants to go "up market" and present a dining experience which is unsuited to the food requirement. When this is done well with expensive food and expensively trained staff it is fine. There are some excellent examples, but more where you feel in the wrong place..

Then there is the sort of curry shop we used to get. Friendly, low priced, reasonable - sometimes very good food - and relaxing.

The Invicta is all of these things. Converted from an old tea room the place is small and a little crammed. Staff are very friendly and while the place is clean and nicely decorate it has the sort of rough edges that mean you can relax about the occasional drop of spilled curry sauce, and order beer without feeling you are letting them down.

In short, a perfect place for a family curry that won't break the bank.

The menu is extensive and has some surprises on it, particularly in the clever use of fried garlic, but you won't be too surprised. You'll just have a relaxed, convivial curry with friends, and if you are relaxed about the rough edges - and feel free to speak out about anything you don't like - you'll have a good time.
