Had lunch here on my birthday in April 2013.
We booked on top table and requested a booth which was reserved for us when we arrived.
The systems works!
We had a child in our group, although the menu did not reflect any child size meals, this was no problem when we approached the friendly staff who sorted out something suitable for our six year old.
The setting is on the lively harbour. I've eaten here many times whether evening or lunch the menu and food have never disappointed.
For some the service may be a little slow, but we were here to relax and enjoyed not being rushed.

“very good grub”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

Liked, the staff who were friendly and helpful and efficient.
The whitebait, oyster, skate wings, clams, bread and salad and my husband said his carrots were delicious - he is not known to rave about carrots and has a particular palate so they must have been good.
The unpretentious but comfortable surroundings.
The delicious local larger and the chilled sauvignon blanc - not too cold just right.
Nothing to dislike.

“Harbour View Seafood”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

On first inspection, looks being deceptive, this appears as a fish and chip restaurant above a fish market on a harbourside. However a quick look at the menu develops some interest and later that evening we entered for a meal. The restaurant is nicely furnished and overlooks the harbour at Whitstable as it is on the working quayside. The staff were extremely friendly and offered us a selection of tables. There was great menu choice from a variety of seafoods, some locally sourced. The service was friendly and efficient but relaxed. The food was superb. The Bouillibase was full and flavoursome, and the tuna steak off a set menu served with spinach and a sweet and sour source was delicious. The portions were more than ample and the bill was not at all large. Will definately eat there again on return to Whitstable. Worth a visit.

“Slow service & mediocre overpriced food”
Reviewed April 20, 2013 via mobile

We have eaten several times here over the past few years and this restaurant is certainly going down in quality.

The service is slow. Once it took over 30 minutes to get our mains and our last visit had a 40 minute wait for our starter (on a pretty empty restaurant)

We ordered mussels and the pot was only half full with mussels cooked in a pretty bland sauce.

And then the nail in the coffin was the £1 charge for tap water!

I think this restaurant has lost the character and quality that gave it its popularity.

“Nan's Treat”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

Last Saturday was our daughters 40th Birthday and we decided to take Nan to Whitstable for lunch. The place we would have gone to was closed for a wedding so we ended up here. We had not booked but were found a table for 6 within 5 mins. We were quickly given a menu, and I enquired if it was ok to order a stater as a main course as Nan is 95 and dosen't eat loads, no problem at all. We were told about the specials that were available and our drinks order taken. The drinks arrived quickly. Two children's fish and chips, sardines Provencal, starters of scallops and whitebait, and my mussels in white wine and garlic and an extra portion of chips to go with the sardines. Bread and dipping oil was put on the table for us to eat while we waited. The food was excellent, the batter on the fish was so light and the fish white and succulent. Nan munched her way through an enormous dish of whitebait, the sardines were large and perfectly grilled and the scallops and mussels were some of the best we have ever eaten( daughter and I shared the scallops and mussels) The whole bill came to £84 which included the food 2 glasses of white wine, 2 J2o's and 3 glasses of diet coke and a jug of tap water for our youngest grand daughter who does not drink anything fizzy and they had no form of squash. All together we had a great time. The food was excellent, the staff very friendly and the place is light airy and has a great view of the harbour.
