We originally booked in at the better know establishment around the corner but changed our mind after a personal recommendation. We were certainly not disappointed. Simple but cosy restaurant decor, very friendly service, good wine but most of all very good food. Some dishes were better than others but all were tasty and well cooked.

We really liked this restaurant. All three courses for both of us were really good. My main course in particular white fish - I forget which - in saffron broth with dumplings - was delicious and definitely something more complex than I could have made at home and really worth eating out for. Complex but not over complicated. We were made to feel really welcome and it was altogether very enjoyable. The food was beautifully presented and for me the portion sizes were perfect - not mean but not enormous which meant I could enjoy all three courses.

Nice little restaurant with very good fresh produce and with a good local reputation.
Can get busy so best to enquire about booking, really liked the coffee and pastries!

We chose this restaurant for a special night without the kids. We stayed in whitstable for Saturday night and had a few options of where to eat. We were originally swaying towards either the whitstable oyster fisherie co or birdies. We were slightly surprised to see staff smoking outside of birdies and the fisheries menu didn't really excite although both of these have been recommended highly by friends who live locally.

Samphire ticks all the boxes of what a good small independent restaurant should do. A welcoming atmosphere with tasteful decor. Friendly, attractive staff who are able to discuss and explain menu. A menu which I would be happy to order any dish, although the stewed oxtail pearl barley risotto is one of the best starters I've ever had and how can anyone not like home made treacle tart or chocolate parfait with salted caramel ice cream. 3 course meal for for 2 = £80 including a bottle of decent red wine. Ok its not bargain basement prices but its quality food that is cooked and served by a caring team.

Go there and try it, if budget is a problem, a bowl of soup and bread is £4.50 and ill bet its pretty good soup!!

Everything was lovely and would highly recommend it. We went on an early January night which meant we easily got a table but we were only one of 3 tables so a little light on hustle and bustle though amply made up for by the excellent food and service.
