“Spa but at what price?”
Reviewed April 10, 2011

As a hotel that advertises itself as a hotel and Spa its a bit of a joke to arrive at the hotel and then be told that the Spa is for members only. If you want a hotel with a pool and Gym either go elsewhere or check that it’s included in the rate.

Also a remote location.

Very disappointed and would not return.

very good value on a groupon deal, spa was wonderful, new, clean and well equipped.
the room was huge with two double beds and a balcony overlooking the wonderful view of the golf course.
the public areas and rooms were a little dated. and there was some chipped and flakey paint in places, but overall with a little attention they could be very good.
rather odd sign in reception saying corkage would be charged if you brought in food or drink..
Breakfast and dinner very tasty and well presented.
the spa was included in our deal, but have never been to another hotel where it was charged extra to guests

Room Tip: do vist Leeds castle

This was a spa break offer and was excellent value for money for an overnight stay with full use of the spa, an evening meal and breakfast thrown in. It was in a tranquil setting overlooking a golf course. Highly recommended.

We stayed here as part of the Groupon deal, had we have paid full price for this hotel i would have asked for my money back. I found this hotel to be one of extremes, the food and spa were both really good and to high quality but the room was terrible, the hotel looked very dated and worn out but the spa on the other hand was wonderful. The room was really big with two double beds which weren't even proper beds but pull down ones from the wall! The room during the night was so hot, neither of us slept well at all and the air con system which was in the room was right in the corner away from the beds so was no use to us as we couldnt move it close to us. Only one small bottle of water was supplied in the room which we found was open so we were gasping during the night with no water to drink.

The spa on the other hand was lovely, well kept and clean, jacuzzi was brilliant and the bar for the spa was nicely decorated, clean and contemporary. The changing rooms at the spa were well equipt with ghd hair straighters and hair dryers.

We were both really pleased with the spa but the the hotel on the other hand was depressing, we both wanted to leave and go home! The food was tasty, excellent quality and decoration. Breakfast in the morning was really good too, continental and fully cooked breakfast.

Overall we were both confused by this hotel as there were quite high standards on some aspects of the hotel (food and spa) and small touches such as the robe and slippers were nice too but i was so shocked and dissapointed with the room!

Hotel was pretty much in the middle of nowhere, nothing to do around so you're stuck at the hotel really. Also i agree with other reviews on here about the hotel being quite rude about certain ways they word things such as the strict 11am check out. We recieved a letter worded quite rudely about not allowing guests to bring their own food/drink to the hotel or there will be a fine which was all listed in the letter. It felt a bit threatening to me, "If we find out that any items have been consumed but not purchased from this establishment..." this was part of a paragraph highlighted in bold.

Overall bad experience, I would recommend for the spa and food but otherwise dont bother.

Having recently completed the Health Club and Spa, we are in the process of refurbishing the Hotel Bedrooms and Reception areas.
Bottled water is provided in all our Bedrooms, we are happy to replace or replenish if requested. Reception, Housekeeping, Bar Staff and Duty Manager will also arrange for additional water. Jugs of iced water are available from the Bar if requested.
Our Bedrooms are heated with an underfloor heating system. Guests have the freedom to +/- temperatures. Due to the nature of the system this can sometimes take a few hours to adjust. If this has been adjusted too high by a guest it will takes acouple of hours to lose temperature.
We promote our Hotel as being set in 100 acres of picturesque rural countryside, somewhere to relax and unwind. Tenterden High Street is 2 minutes drive with a selection of Shops, Pubs and Restaurants. The historic towns of Tenterden, Rye, Battle, Hastings, Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells, are within 30-40 mins drive from the Hotel. The award winning Chapel Down and Bidenden Vineyards are 10 mins drive from Hotel. Sissinghurst, Gt. Dixter, Smallhythe Place, Leeds Castle and several National Trust properties and gardens are close by. We offer many types of Leisure Breaks:- Helicopter Rides, Hot Air Balloon flights, Horse Riding, Walking, Water Colour Painting, Cookery, and Cycling these are not included in the Groupon price.
Since featuring the Groupon deal we have discovered a huge increase in empty wine bottles and food cartons being brought in to the Hotel. Which the Hotel does not allow.
It appears that not only a majority of Groupon Holders are not satisfied with their discount rate, they must still take advantage of "BYO" (e.g.Tesco Special offer wine !) The Hotel drastically cuts the Bedroom Tariff and many Hotels hope to make up the deficit with additional sales e.g. sandwiches, lunch, food and drink. The Hotel still has to pay full price for Staff, Bar Licence, Heating, Suppliers etc.
It also appears that the same guests want to have an early check-in time and a late check-out time, unfortunately in a busy Hotel, this is not possible. We take a pride in our Housekeeping and need the required time to make sure the rooms are serviced and ready for the next guest.

Having just read the previous entry I wonder if we went to the same place!
All the staff we met - both reception, in the spa and, later, in the restaurant were friendly and helpful. Our room was enormous with a beautiful view of the golf course and beyond and although the dark furniture might not be to everyone's taste everything was spotlessly clean.

We were very impressed with the pool and spa facilities - no acrid chlorine smell when you first enter the pool area (apparently they use salt) and the temperature of the water just right. The hydrotherapy pool was great. I would have certainly complained if I had found the changing/shower areas dirty but they were immaculate. I spoke to some people whilst in the steam room (as you do!) who were members and they all said how impressed they were with the facilities.

Dinner was tasty - lamb pink, scallops not overcooked etc and breakfast individually cooked as well as fresh fruit salads, croissants etc. The young waitresses both in the evening and at breakfast were very pleasant and very efficient.
Our only negative point would be with the sheets and blankets on the bed rather than duvets but that would certainly not put us off returning.

Before we travelled here we called an asked nearest train station was told ashford an asked how much would a taxi cost if they knew young girl said doooonnnttt kkknnnooowww didnt offer a taxi no or any assistance. On arrival we sat in conservatory as we were early an could not access our rooms the furniture was filthy we had a drink it was ok but had to ask for ice !!! spa was adequate been to better as said before few wicker chairs to sit on when you get out of pool but situated as if you were on a bus not relaxing at all but the worst was the shower facilities in the spa they looked lovely but my shower was flithy lumps hair on floor dust an dirt in corners hence shower flooded on use ! when i went to use the shower gel it was either watered down or very cheap an smelt like jeyes fluid again the woman that ran the spa was not helpful. On trying to use the hairdryer in my room i tried to switch it on after plugging it in only for it to have a small flame come out of the switch an it smelt as if it was about to burst into flames getting extreamly hot in seconds hence i tried to contact the reception to tell them but not a chance did anyone pick up the phone so on depature i told housekeeper and reception but neither seemed bothered. Dinner was nice to look at but mine was cold and husbands hot could be i had steak an he had fish again only one waitress i tried to get her attention to request steak knife not a hope. We have stayed at quiet a few spa hotels an this has to rate as our worst behind the dated facade its filthy an the staff have no pride in the job they are doing whatsoever it could def do with Mary portas an Gorden Ramsey spending a week at this place

We booked this hotel through a soecial offer with Groupon for £109 with a two course Dinner and B&B.
We booked a double room, but got given a "Double Double" room - one huge room, two double beds -which were comfy (maybe a little hard for me), with great views out over the golf course. Nice bathroom with a fab power shower. HUGE TV!
The hotel is looking a tiny wee bit "tired", but nothing that a lick of fresh paint and some less dated colours - particularly in the bar/restaurant - couldn't fix.
On arrival we had a baguette in the bar, it was good value - a massive sausage and onion baguette, with salad for around £6 - can't knock that - it fed two of us!
We then went down to the spa area - this was really nice - lovely and clean, great facilities, modern and not busy at all. The only slight disappointment was that because the hotel have made maximum use of space to fit in a good size pool and jacuzzi there are no loungers, only wicker chairs around that pool - and I was SO looking forward to chilling out with my book! They do have loungers in the ladies only area, but as I was away with my husband I din't want him to feel left out! Tried everything, sauna, steam and jacuzzi..........all great.
Dinner was lovely with a reasonable choice. Our "extras" (couple of vodkas, couple of gins and a port) came to around £20 - so no nasty surprises there - which is always good. The staff are lovely and friendly - even letting us check out late so we could squeeze in maximum "chillout" time the next morning.
Breakfast was standard full english, hot and fresh with plenty of choices of bread, cereal and fruit - for those so inclined!
Would go angain if another voucher came up - not sure I would pay full price though.
